About the Department
Position Duties
- Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Provides technical information regarding locations for manholes, sewer/water mains, sewer/water taps, system slopes, survey landmarks, street and right of way dimensions, and flood plains/ways to contractors, citizens, and professionals.
- Works closely with the current planning program on development review submittals and serves as back-up to include data entry, staff assignments, agenda creation, and distribution of bi-weekly staff assignments, uploading documents and ensure that minimum requirements are included in the development review project applications
- Analyses asbestos inspection reports to ensure Federal/State requirements are met.
- Confers with architects, engineers, homeowners and contractors on design data or to resolve problems.
- Provides specific feedback to designers through phone calls, letters, emails, or meetings as required to resolve problems prior to issuance of a permit.
- Provides solutions to the public in reference to the Zoning Code, the International Residential and Commercial Codes, and the Engineering Design Standards and Specifications.
- Assists the public with questions they may have regarding the proper procedures, forms, permits, plans, fees, and time frames associated with building, engineering, planning, code compliance, and zoning requests.
- Seeks resolutions for multiple City section and divisions problems and questions.
- Checks permit applications and plans for completeness, and minimum submittal requirements for various different permit types for multiple programs, sections and divisions.
- Expedites the flow of plans and permits to the proper authority for review. Completes data entry using permit tracking software which is crucial for completed permits.
- Processes all program/section/division permits that are submitted through the Citizen Access online portal and in-person applications including accessing fees, comments, completeness, accuracy and issuance ensuring that the proper Arizona Registrar of Contractors licensing requirements are adhered too.
- Communicates with builders, homeowners, contractors, and developers regarding the status of their permit or request through the Community Development Review and Engineering review Process.
- Participates in the on-going maintenance of the Community Development tracking system database and assists in training new personnel in its updating and use.
- Assists in developing methods and procedures to ensure a smooth, timely, and efficient flow in the processing of all Community Development and Engineering applications and permits.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Two years of related college level coursework.
- Two years of customer service experience.
- One year of experience performing increasing responsible administrative work including proficiency with word processing and other computer software applications.
- Or any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
- Experience in a high-profile public customer service position.
- Customer service experience related to construction, building, planning/zoning and/or building plan review.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
- Must obtain International Code Council Permit Technician Certification within one year of hire.
