Summary
Under the direction of the Human Resource Supervisor, serve as the staff specialist in safety by developing, maintaining, and conducting procedures that effectively control accident and health exposures in the company, promoting environmental health & safety culture and maintaining provincial health & safety, Made Safe and WCB compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Maintain compliance with all provincial, federal, and local regulatory agencies
- Direct the development and administration of all training programs to meet safety objectives (including but not limited to: Forklift, Respiratory, Crane, and First Aid/CPR training)
- Plans, maintains, and directs the Health & Safety Committee with inspections, meetings, and training
- Serve as an advisor and first responder for environmental issues, fire evacuation, first aid, and other emergency services
- Maintain and update KPI tracking, SOPs, Shop Floor Temperatures, Risk Assessments and other safety documentation as required
- Update tracking systems, training files, and investigation files for all employees
- Maintain all of the safety emergency response programs and requirements
- Conduct investigations, inspections and audits on all workplace hazards
- Work with the environmental health and safety team to maintain licenses as required
- Be the direct contact with all local, provincial, and federal regulatory agencies
- Address in a timely fashion all requests to evaluate air quality, illumination standards, respiratory protection, and hearing conservation issues in the workplace
- Maintain a thorough understanding of air wastewater, hazardous waste, and related laws/ regulations
- Work with the engineering and production teams to ensure compliance with all safety programs and requirements
- Ensure that all programs, policies, procedures, and training remain consistent throughout the company
Education and/or Experience Qualifications
- Education / Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field. Or related experience in Safety/EHS, Supervisory/Management experience will be considered
- 1 to 2 years’ experience in a Safety role is highly desired
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment or related industry is highly desirable
- Experience in training employees in the safe use of forklifts, scissor lifts, pallet jacks and additional machinery
- Experience training employees in health and safety practices. Examples: Ladder use, Lifting practices, and PPE use
