What you will be doing in the role of an Analyst, Applied Research & Evaluation
The Analyst, Applied Research & Evaluation position is a member of the Applied Research & Evaluation team within Komen’s Mission division. The Applied Research & Evaluation team supports Komen’s role as an evidence-based organization by transforming data into meaningful intelligence that will guide program strategy, convey Komen’s impact, and contribute to the body of scientific evidence about breast cancer.
What you will bring to the table
Contributing to research studies to generate real-world evidence and patient insights to improve breast cancer care and outcomes. This position:
- Provides support conducting mixed-methods research studies to assess patient insights, including methodology, sampling, instrument development, validation, data collection, analysis, benchmarking, and reporting.
- Assists with quantitative data cleaning and management, conducting descriptive and comparative analyses, and generating visualizations and reports.
- Assists with preparation and submission of regulatory materials including review of research protocols and consent forms.
- Employs the tenets of community-based participatory research (CBPR) to support the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data from the breast cancer community including patients, survivors, those living with metastatic breast cancer, researchers, co-survivors and others, and subsets of the community such as those in specific racial/ethnic groups, socio-economic statuses, etc.
- Supports study recruitment and coordination including dissemination of recruitment materials, managing participant inquiries, communication with research/evaluation activity participants, scheduling interviews and focus groups, etc.
- Supports outreach and community engagement efforts to foster meaningful partnerships and ensure diverse voices and perspectives are represented in research and evaluation activities.
Assisting efforts to communicate outcomes, insights, and impact of evaluation and patient insight studies for a multi-stakeholder audience. This position:
- Performs technical writing and reporting of data, including complex reports that provide statistics, demographics, ratings, averages, and other numerical and text-based data.
- Coordinates with team members to prepare presentations, tables, charts, and figures for internal and external reports.
- Contributes to the communication of study outcomes including talking points, website content, program summaries, abstracts for presentation at scientific conferences, and scholarly manuscripts for high-impact academic medical and social scientific journals.
- Contributes to data inquiries, donor proposals, pitch documents, presentations, and other materials.
- Represents Komen and the mission team in a professional manner internally and externally to key stakeholders.
Supporting process/ project management. This position:
- Maintains proper research data maintenance and security protocols.
- Tracks documentation for mixed-methods research evaluation portfolio (e.g., IRB submission, consent documentation, participant communication, etc.).
- Develops and maintains Center for Applied Research process documentation (SOWs, SOPs, guidelines, etc.).
- Works effectively with cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and initiatives.
- Serves as a Komen representative on internal committees and working groups.
- Upholds Komen's principles of scientific excellence, fairness, and transparency.
- All other duties as assigned.
We know you will have and be able to
- A Bachelor’s degree in public health, applied research, social sciences or related field and 2-5 years’ experience conducting mixed-methods and/or applied research.
- Understanding of best practices in the ethical conduct of mixed methods and human subject research.
- Ability to see projects through from conception to completion; demonstrated ability to identify problems and follow through until resolution.
- Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and collaborate with team members.
- Strong communication skills, written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously but also function well in a collaborative team setting, working across functions and different types of people.
- Demonstrated experience with working relationships in a matrix structure.
- Demonstrated experience in client and stakeholder communication including but not limited to written, oral and electronic reports.
- Ability to translate data into clear summaries, data visualizations, and presentations.
- Experience working with patients/survivors of disease.
- Experience conducting statistical analysis.
- Experience designing and inputting online surveys.
We would love if you also have
- Master’s Degree in public health, applied research, social sciences, or related field is a plus.
- Experience analyzing qualitative data.
- Experience with community engagement in diverse communities.
- Experience working in a non-profit setting.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred.
- Specialized/technical Requirements
- Experience with survey platforms and analysis tools such as Qualtrics or Dedoose is a plus.
- Experience with statistical analysis software such as Excel, R Studio, or SAS.
- Position requires intermediate level of computer/technical skills. Programs utilized are Microsoft Office, databases (internal and external) and virtual networking programs (e.g., Microsoft Teams). Must be able to assist others with basic computer/technical issues and/or understanding.
- Travel requirements required outside of your home office will be less than 10% depending on our business needs or conferences.

Approximate rate of $49,000-$65,000/annual, exact compensation ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job level, internal equity and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's skills, experience and geographic location.
