Shared Memories Intern

Department: Local History and Genealogy Location: Pueblo, CO

Are you passionate about history, storytelling, and community engagement? The Pueblo City-County Library District is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Shared Memories Intern to support a initiative funded by the Mellon Foundation. As part of the Shared Memories Project, you will help bring digital memory labs to libraries, museums and cultural organizations across Southern Colorado- empowering communities to preserve photos, videos, and oral histories for generations to come.

This part-time role (18 hours per week) offers hands-on experience in public history, digitization, and outreach. You will travel to partner sites, assist with equipment and training, and play a vital role in making memory-keeping accessible to all. The Shared Memories Project: Shared Memories is a Mellon Foundation-funded initiative that brings digital memory labs to libraries, museums, and cultural organizations across Southern Colorado. These labs help communities preserve their stories � digitizing photos, videos, and oral histories � and make them part of our shared cultural record.

As a Shared Memories Intern, you will be part of a passionate team by helping to install equipment, train staff, and support events that celebrate and preserve local history. You�ll travel to partner site, meet amazing people, and help make memory-keeping accessible to everyone. This position is part-time, 18 hours per week.

The Shared Memories Intern reports to the Local History & Genealogy Manager and works collaboratively with department team members. The intern works directly with partner staff and volunteers and with the public during program and training events, representing the library as a friendly and knowledgeable resource. The position provides excellent customer service demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, ability level or background.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help install and support digital memory labs at partners sites across 16 counties.
  • Assists PCCLD project staff with training sessions and public programs that teach people how to digitize and preserve their memories.
  • Provide friendly project and tech support via phone, email and virtual meetings.
  • Coordinate equipment lending and track usage across the region.
  • Join site visits with PCCLD staff and help with logistics, archiving, and materials.
  • Maintain records, statistics, and reports to support the project�s success.
  • Represent PCCLD with warmth, professionalism and cultural sensitivity.
  • Supports team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by maintaining awareness of surroundings and working in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled department meetings.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED and one year of related work experience required.
  • College/university credit hours toward a degree in public history, history, library science, archives or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Work experience in library, archives, museums, galleries, or cultural heritage organization is preferred.
  • Experience using scanners and digitization equipment of moving image and audio formats is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel locally and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Requires basic computer and technology skills including email spreadsheets, scanners, digitization equipment.
  • Excellent proactive customer service skills with the ability to present a positive image of the library in attitude, communication style and appearance.
  • Basic math and English language skills, both written and verbal, are required.
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to listen, address basic customer concerns and assist customers in resolving issues.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse populations including people of all ages, backgrounds, races, and special needs populations.
  • Requires the ability to actively participate and contribute as a team member as well as work independently, follow instructions and use good judgment.
  • Ability to function under flexible and changing conditions.

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to do repetitive work including hours of standing, bending, kneeling, shelving, lifting, pushing and pulling. Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 35 pounds and push /pull a fully loaded book cart weighing up to 100 pounds.

Other Requirements: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends. Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal background investigation.

Wage: $18.75 per hour

Length of Internship: The internship is part of a grant-funded project. We are looking for candidates who can engage meaningfully over time � ideally for at least 12 months. This helps us build continuity with our partner sites and ensures a deeper learning experience for you.

Benefits: PCCLD participates in Colorado PERA retirement plan. The intern accrues paid sick time in accordance with the Colorado Health Families and Workplaces Act.
