POSITION SUMMARY:

The YMCA of Southern Nevada is currently seeking a CCSD licensed teacher or CCSD substitute to serve as an afterschool substitute teacher. This is a part time opportunity for licensed teachers that will come with the opportunity to impact youth in the community we serve! We welcome you to apply to join our YMCA family!

The Power Scholars Teacher is responsible for overseeing and facilitating the implementation of the BellXcel Power Scholars program, as well as homework assistance, academic enrichment, and family engagement events. This position requires high energy, enthusiasm for the YMCA’s mission, and flexibility. The program runs from 2:45pm-6:00pm, Monday-Thursday, and as a substitute you may travel to the following schools: Berkeley L Bunker Elementary, Edythe and Lloyd Elementrary, Claude H. & Stella M Parson Elementary, Griffith Elementary.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize a 30-minute daily prep period to collaborate, organize materials, and prepare lessons for smooth program delivery. 
  • Ensures proper implementation of the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s Youth Development policies and procedures.
  • Ensures activities are delivered as intended under the approved funding application.
  • Maintains a safe and secure site location with established emergency procedures.
  • Working with small groups up to 24 students and/or individual scholars via video conference, pre-recorded videos.
  • Support the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons.
  • Ensure the academic and social development of scholars throughout the course of the program.
  • Oversee classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment.

 

ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with children.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • You will need to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
  • You will need to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. You will need to reach with hands or arms. You will also need to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • You will occasionally need lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a current Teacher's License
  • 1-2 years of experience facilitating out-of-school-time programming, preferably within underserved communities preferred
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Academic skills –proficiency in elementary math and literacy.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, community members & families remotely.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Love and respect for children.
  • Working with Children within 30 days of hire.
  • Current American Red Cross Certifications in CPR and First Aid within 30 days of hire
