Description

General Description:  The Temporary Volunteer Operations Coordinator will provide support, leadership and engagement opportunities to all volunteers at San Antonio Food Bank.  Position is responsible for completion of daily projects as identified by the Volunteer Operations Manager/Lead Volunteer Operations Coordinator.  Projects include, but are not limited to, sorting production in the Sorting Room, Coolers, Warehouse, and Freezers.  Strong emphasis placed on Hunger Fighter Efficiency Index (HFEI), unsellable control, weighing, tagging and racking of all sorted product, as well as cleanliness of project space following project completion. This position is highly visible to volunteers requiring strong relationship management and communication skills. This position maintains positive relationships and communication with colleagues across various internal departments within SAFBFB

 

Job Term: mid-November to mid-January

Schedule: Typically Monday to Friday with a rotating Wednesday evening and Saturday and daytime

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assure proper training of volunteers to include specifics of jobs and safety concerns.
  • Handle material from warehouse to sorting area, which includes the operation of a forklift, jack truck, and/or other warehouse equipment while operating in a safer manner. Control flow of all products in and out of the project space, stage daily projects and work shoulder to shoulder with volunteers. 
  • Inspect finished product prior to racking to ensure proper temperature, no signs of pest activity and cleanliness of product. 
  • Ensure the weigh station is stocked and the proper tags are used and are legitimate for the product they represent.
  • Keep the work areas clean and organized; remove trash, recycle cardboard, sweep and mop floors, and promote overall cleanliness and inspection readiness using a standard cleaning schedule.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness & maintenance of the Sorting Room, as well as project space immediately prior to and following a project, using the standard cleaning schedule.
  • Assure all project supplies are stocked and equipment is well maintained. 
  • Maintain safety of volunteers and self while using pallet jacks, forklift and other equipment.
  • Seek opportunities to nominate volunteers for community recognition.
  • Coordinate with the Volunteer Operations Manager and Director of Volunteer Services on all corporate and organizational communications to ensure maximization of Food, Time, Money, and Voice message. 
  • Help to develop and maintain policies and procedures relating to volunteer activities and recognition.
  • Act as liaison between the Food Bank and volunteers during their volunteer experience and mediate any issues that may arise so that there is always a positive volunteer experience at the Food Bank.
  • Comply with and abide by all personnel policies and accept additional duties as assigned by the Volunteer Operations Manager/Lead Volunteer Operations Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned or delegated.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • College degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Warehouse or event management experience preferred.
  • Public Speaking and Customer Service experience required.
  • Forklift/pallet jack/other common warehouse equipment experience preferred. Must be willing able to learn
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Skills in computer applications i.e. Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
  • Good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to organize work, time, and self.
  • Orientation to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other Food Bank staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to present a professional demeanor under a variety of conditions.
  • Work, as needed, to include days, evenings and weekends. 
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
