Pay: $78,000 - $80,340 annual

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implements and upholds security, safety, and well-being standards for personnel, visitors, and premises.
  • Ensures adherence to HBH service and departmental operating standards and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Creates and maintains safe and welcoming physical environments across all Howard Brown sites.
  • Communicate regularly with HBH management regarding assigned incidents through the Alert Media platform and Safety Intervention Network.
  • Leads and schedules active shooter drills, fire drills, and extreme weather drills to ensure preparedness and safety.
  • Responds to emergencies promptly and aids employees and clients as necessary.
  • Safeguards HBH assets against theft, assault, fire, and other safety concerns, adhering to established procedures.
  • Provides support for Occupational Safety initiatives in collaboration with the Facilities team.
  • Provide support in data evaluation and reporting to the Director of Safety.
  • Escorts staff to and from vehicles, bus stops, and CTA stations as required.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations and approved policies and maintains the highest levels of client confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Facilitates comprehensive trainings on nonviolent interventions, de-escalation, A.L.I.C.E, and other assigned safety topics.
  • Manages and monitors the daily operations of the Safety department, leveraging the Alert Media platform and Safety Intervention Network.
  • Creates and manages monthly work schedules for Safety Coordinators within the assigned region.
  • Develops and refines Standard Operating Procedures specific to the Safety team's functions.
  • Oversees the performance and professional growth of Safety Intervention Coordinators using HBH's preferred electronic format.
  • Periodically tours the facility to identify irregularities, verify protection and fire equipment, uphold order, and support de-escalation.
  • Assists the Director of Safety in supervising HBH building access services and the Safety department RMS.
  • Reports emergency situations and incidents immediately to the Director of Safety.
  • Cultivates and maintains strong community partnerships both internally and externally to enhance Howard Brown Health's safety framework.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to uphold standards of Sexual Harassment Prevention.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 Education:

  • Associate degree is required. Relevant work experience in safety, security, or law enforcement may substitute the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • CPI and CPR certifications must be maintained.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of work experience in a safety, security, and/or law enforcement role is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration and engagement.
  • Knowledge of Restorative and Transformative Justice practices is required.
  • Knowledge of and expertise in Harm-Reduction and Trauma-Informed service provision.
  • Proficient in verbal and physical de-escalation techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate unwavering commitment to Howard Brown's core values, mission, and vision.

 

Preferred:

  • 5-10 years of work experience in a security role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of security operations and procedures is preferred.
  • OSHA certification is preferred.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Acknowledge and respect the unique character of each HBH site, understanding their offered services to better serve clientele and staff.
  2. Uphold restorative justice practices within the network, delivering a safe and responsible "first response" during escalated situations.
  3. Ability to stand for extended periods, maintaining flexibility to work both scheduled and unscheduled hours.
  4. Must be adaptable to placements at any of the HBH locations in the portfolio.

  • Foster open communication and collaborative teamwork with fellow managers, ensuring the swift exchange of information.

  • Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.
  • Requires ability to use computers, telephones and other office equipment.
  • Requires ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • May require occasional bending and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • May require periodic travel.
