Primary Responsibilities
This position involves designing, testing, and coordinating new products and features. It impacts the organization by ensuring the success, timely market delivery, and quality of new products. The responsibilities, experience, and knowledge required are outlined below:
Product Development
- Translate product requirements into design solutions, specifications and test requirements, working independently and within cross functional teams.
- Apply systems engineering principles for cohesive integration of mechanical, electrical and software components.
- Conduct system-level analysis and verification to ensure product meets performance and reliability standards.
- Direct/evaluate design through 3D modeling, GD&T drafting, tooling and testing, engaging in hands-on development via prototyping, and troubleshooting.
- Present design and test conclusions for review by project and product management teams.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups to verify assembly, fabrication, service capabilities.
- Collaborate with supply chain to source components, conduct cost analysis, and support development.
- Apply Design for Manufacturing and Assembly and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodologies to ensure high quality delivery for downstream stakeholders.
Project Management
- Plan, schedule and organize workload.
- Direct, review, and approve work done by Designers and Drafters.
- Identify risks and identify mitigation strategies.
- Plan development expenses to stay within budget.
- Monitor project timelines to ensure that tasks are completed on schedule.
Required Qualifications:
- Skills: SolidWorks proficiency, or comparable 3D modeling software
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related
- 3-6 years of consumer product experience
- Familiar with the new product development lifecycle
Preferred Qualifications:
- JAMA proficiency, or comparable requirements management software
- LabView proficiency, or comparable test and measurement control software
- ANSYS proficiency, or comparable simulation software
- Python proficiency, or comparable basic coding
- Experience or understanding of cooking appliances
- Experience with gas burners, induction generators, electrical heaters, fans, or sheet metal
- Experience performing finite element analysis and CFD
- Application of regulatory requirements, such as CSA/UL
