Position: Extended Day Lead Teacher Reports to: Extended Day Coordinator
Division: Extended Day FLSA Status: Hourly
Employed: Full time >30 hours/week
Brookstone seeks to employ Extended teachers who are energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated to a whole child approach. Demonstrated knowledge of both child development content and instructional best practices is required. In addition, a desire to be both innovative and accepting of the division's approach to learning is essential. Collegiality and cooperation are hallmarks of Brookstone’s Extended teachers, as well as a proactive mentality and a commitment to being “all in” when needed. An Extended teacher provides support to the associate teacher in the instruction of students in the afternoon and takes the lead role for the early evening hours.
Responsibilities:
Carries out the mission, vision, and values established by the Head of School and the Board of Directors by enforcing the policies and rules governing students
Assists the associate teacher in developing and implementing lesson plans
Gathers resources and supplementary materials
Supervises students in the classroom and other locations. For example, during fire drills, on field trips, in the cafeteria or in the library, and while moving from one location to another on the campus
Encourages safety habits in work and play
Monitors work assigned by the teacher and keeps students on task
Keeps the classroom neat and orderly and provides an environment that encourages learning
Maintains confidentiality of records and information
Teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others
Reconciles minor student conflicts
Assists in maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly logs and reports
Attends staff meetings and professional learning opportunities
Other duties as assigned by the teacher, Extended Coordinator, and/or the principal
Maintains continuity in teaching, learning, classroom routines and procedures, and discipline from morning through Extended Day
Sets and maintains a consistent afternoon schedule
Assists with the setup and clean up of Lunch Bunch
Communicates appropriately with parents regarding student behavioral concerns
Coordinates transitions to Cub activities with the Extended Day Coordinator
Education:
High school diploma required, CDA certification preferred
Experience in providing care and instruction for children
Physical Requirements:
Ability to observe, see, hear, and respond quickly to children’s needs, emergencies, and any conflicts that may occur
Ability to lift 30 pounds, crouch down to the level of a student, and occasionally sit on the floor
Other Requirements:
Ability to be aware of the cognitive, social, and physical needs of children
Ability to speak in a professional manner and listen to understand young children
Monday through Friday, 10 AM - 6 PM. Required special events, as needed.
