MEDIA CENTER TEACHERS'S AIDE
POSITION OBJECTIVE: To assist the Media Specialist in managing and maintaining the circulation and patron database of both libraries, as assigned, in addition to providing library services to students in grades PK-12 and the faculty who serve them.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The employee must be a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who agrees to the HCS Statement of Faith, Charter of Core Values and Employee Covenant in both their professional conduct and personal lifestyle. The employee is committed to incorporating these qualities and standards in carrying out the calling to Christian education. The media center teaching assistant must be flexible, friendly, and willing to work in a support role - possessing a servant’s heart for both students and staff.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma, college work in a related field is preferred. Additional training will be provided by the Indianapolis Public Library.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains circulation and patron databases.
Issues IndyPL library cards to all students and teachers K-12.
Maintains a file of teacher room cards preschool-12.
Checks materials in and out, processes incoming and outgoing holds, and routes materials to other locations.
Maintains patron database accuracy by updating student and teacher records.
Maintains an orderly and pleasing library environment
Shelves books as they are returned daily or as needed.
“Read” shelves each semester to maintain them in proper order.
Dusts shelves regularly.
Creates and maintains book displays.
Maintains an organized circulation desk.
Repairs books for both libraries
Assists students in finding and using print and online resources.
Helps students with computer and printing use.
Provides direction and discipline as needed to students using the library.
Prepares materials for circulation and/or deletion.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position (moving up to 25 pounds, positioning oneself accordingly to place books on a shelf and assist students). .
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Library; works alone and with others; noise level varies throughout day; help with students and classes; interruptions expected.
EXEMPT STATUS: Non-exempt, hourly
WORK SCHEDULE: Academic year per contract
BENEFIT CATEGORY: 10-month, plus 2 weeks prior to the start of the new school year, Part-time, Hourly
