Summary/Objective: An Earthworks Estimator 2 reviews bid documents, performs take-offs and quantities, and 
develops estimates for earthwork and underground utilities.  
This position will report to an Earthworks Senior Estimator and may have duties and responsibilities across 
multiple groups within DPR.  
 
Essential Functions

An Earthworks Estimator 2 will be responsible for completing take-off and data entry for site work of basic and 
intermediate size/complexity projects.   
• Demonstrate understanding and alignment with DPR safety procedures and incorporate these into 
the projects and department routines, as appropriate. 
• Read drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and narratives to understand project requirements.  
Analyze site components and structural/building requirements. Determine the relationship between the 
drawings, specifications, and narrative.   
• Quantify the materials required for a project by calculating items from construction drawings (takeoff).  
Leverage software to quantify takeoff on 2D plan set and in 3D models. Calculate the quantities (quantity 
survey) of required materials for sitework and quantify missing components identified during the drawing 
analysis. Set up the initial project takeoff template and logically organize the quantity takeoff. 
• Participate in the cost study process. Identify value engineering opportunities. Price and complete takeoff 
for identified opportunities. 
• Complete data entry requirements, to include transferring data between systems and categorizing data 
into cost types (material, labor, etc.).   
• Coordinate and communicate with subcontractors and vendors. Contact subcontractors and vendors to 
coordinate schedules, deadlines, and expectations. Follow up with subcontractors/vendors to submit 
proposals in a timely manner. Serve as the conduit of information and clarifications between the 
subcontractor and/or Preconstruction team. Respond to email and telephone communications in a timely 
manner. 
• Assist Senior (Sr.) Estimator with compiling and producing the project deliverable package. Complete 
clarifications related to assigned scopes. Generate visuals and print estimate report for the deliverable 
package. 
• Set up and evaluate bids. Compile and analyze subcontractor quotes in partnership with Sr. Estimator.  
Set up estimate bid items, activities, crews, and production to generate price analysis. Analyze 
subcontractor/vendor pricing for complete scope. Compare subcontractor, supplier, and vendor quotes 
and determine the best value. Estimate closeout including subcontractor/vendor quote comparisons. 
• Create bid proposals. Enter appropriate quantities, to include activities and associated crews and 
productions. Review information, clarify bid notes, and send proposal to project team. Prepare construction schedule. 
• Coordinate and communicate with leadership and the project team to advance the project. Provide 
updates to the team lead (Sr. Estimator), support information for field operations use, and communicate 
the scope of work and schedule with the project team. 
• Build and sustain relationships with leadership, the project team, and subcontractors. Reach out 
proactively to solicit subcontractor bids, and fulfill any commitments made to develop trust. 
• Independently manage multiple, simultaneous projects. Handle deliverables for multiple projects and 
meet associated deadlines by staying organized and prioritizing tasks appropriately. 
• Actively seek career and professional growth. Attend company and/or industry training offerings. Set 
performance and learning goals during performance reviews. Actively seek additional development, as 
appropriate. Demonstrate a willingness to receive and apply coaching and feedback.

Work Environment 
This job operates in a professional office environment as well as in a construction work site environment. This 
role routinely uses standard office equipment and works inside with others.  
 
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, hear, use eye/hand 
coordination, use manual dexterity, and use personal office equipment. The employee frequently is required to 
stand; sit; walk; stoop; crouch; use motor skills; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally 
required to climb stairs, balance, or kneel. The employee must occasionally be able to work effectively in a 
construction job site environment, including but not limited to working outside, working alone, excessive 
heat/cold, fumes/smoke/gases, walking on uneven surfaces, and working around heavy equipment/ machinery. 
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, 
depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 
Full time.  Work may necessitate a flexible schedule and/or extended hours when required by project schedule. 

Travel 
Ability to travel to various jobsites where DPR conducts business.   
 
Required Education and Experience 
• High School diploma 
• Previous construction estimating experience 
• Education in general plan reading or experience reading/interpreting plans 
• Previous experience working in a construction setting with project teams 
• OSHA10 or ability to complete upon hire 
• Experience reading geotechnical reports 
• Experience using HCSS or other project management/estimating software 
• Experience using Agtek or other 3D/4D software 
• Experience working with Stormwater Management Program Plans (SWMPP) 
• Experience working with municipality codes and regulations 
• Knowledge of general structural/building requirements and design principles 
• Knowledge of material costs and experience with production rates 
 
Preferred Education and Experience 
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience 
• Valid Driver’s License  
• Previous GPS modeling experience 
• Civil construction experience 
• OSHA30 or ability to complete upon hire 
• Experience using Bluebeam or other 2D software 
• Experience applying Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) writing standards 
• Experience using Building Connected or other document management software
