About the role
The Enterprise Network Project Engineer – Field Engineering (Lead Level) is a senior technical resource responsible for delivering consistent, high-quality infrastructure solutions across enterprise and workplace technology projects. Reporting to the Enterprise and Workplace Practice Lead, this role leads project-level engineering activities and provides tactical direction, field execution oversight, and technical governance throughout the project lifecycle.
The Project Engineer ensures that structured cabling, networking, and workplace infrastructure deployments are aligned with customer expectations, engineering standards, and delivery timelines. This position also collaborates with stakeholders across Consulting, PMO, Field Engineering, and Integration Center teams to maintain alignment, resolve escalations, and uphold delivery excellence.
What you'll be doing
- Technical Leadership & Delivery Governance
- Lead all technical aspects of project delivery and serve as the primary escalation point for field engineering issues.
- Oversee the technical quality of project outcomes, ensuring consistency with enterprise standards and best practices.
- Provide technical governance, review and approve internal documentation, and ensure deliverables meet customer requirements.
- Participate in First Article Builds (FAB) and Proof of Concepts (POCs) as required.
- Project Lifecycle Ownership
- Own and manage all technical phases of the project including:
- Design – Site surveys, rack elevations, BOMs, technical workbooks.
- Implementation – Field execution oversight, change orders (FCOs), onsite support.
- Closeout – Final documentation, QA, customer technical sign-off, and lessons learned.
- Review and submit engineering deliverables to the PMO, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Own and manage all technical phases of the project including:
- Field Engineering Oversight
- Direct field installation teams (internal and subcontracted), ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and scope.
- Provide onsite technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to Project Engineers and technicians.
- Validate skillsets of onsite resources and escalate gaps in capabilities.
- Enforce installation best practices in structured cabling, MDF/IDF buildouts, and wireless/hardware deployments.
- Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with PMO, Consultancy, Integration Center, and Field Engineering teams across delivery workstreams.
- Interface with customer technical stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead kick-off meetings, site walks, and After Action Reviews.
- Contribute to Statement of Work (SOW) and Level of Effort (LOE) planning for scoped work.
- Documentation & Standards
- Create and deliver comprehensive technical documentation:
- Site survey reports, rack designs, technical workbooks, and install guides.
- Maintain engineering documentation aligned with industry standards (e.g., BICSI, TIA/EIA).
- Champion continuous improvement by driving feedback loops and supporting standardization initiatives.
- Create and deliver comprehensive technical documentation:
- Team Enablement & Mentorship
- Support onboarding and coaching of junior project engineers and technicians.
- Conduct internal training and performance reviews for engineering staff.
- Promote a culture of accountability, technical rigor, and service excellence.
- Core Focus Areas
- Enterprise Networking: LAN/WAN (Cisco, Meraki, Aruba), branch office connectivity, secure edge.
- Structured Cabling: Copper and fiber installations, MDF/IDF buildouts, BICSI-compliant standards.
- Workplace Infrastructure: Deployment of desktops, laptops, AV equipment, and peripherals.
What you have
- 7+ years of experience delivering enterprise infrastructure and workplace IT solutions.
- Proven experience leading field-based deployments with a focus on quality, consistency, and timelines.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling, networking, workplace endpoints, and rack-level design.
- Hands-on experience in BOM creation, project documentation, and field change management.
- Prior responsibility for technical delivery governance, technical team oversight, and customer-facing engagements.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- BICSI, RCDD, CWNA, or Cisco/Meraki certifications.
- Familiarity with CAD/Revit, Visio, and Smartsheet or MS Project.
- Experience working in a matrixed delivery organization and across multiple project streams.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and quality standards.
- Ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and Visio.
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Ability to influence without authority and drive project alignment across distributed teams.
