ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
(The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include

performed by all incumbents.)
Assist with requests for assistance necessary to insure compliance with Colorado and Mesa County
animal regulations and laws.
May include observation and documentation of evidence to assist Animal Services Officers as necessary
to address illegal activities regarding animal control, public health and public safety.
Performs duties to include the collection, entry, management and auditing of data, cashiering, filing,
dispatching, answering telephones, assisting the public, maintenance and cleaning of the facility or as
assigned by the Animal Services Manager.
May investigate reports of possible disease transmission among animals or animals to humans and
initiate necessary actions within the Animal Services Facility.
May investigate, providing proper documentation, to testify in court for citations written and issued.
Performs humane euthanasia according to established training protocols.
Assists and advises the public as they adopt, redeem, and/or release animals. Completes necessary
paperwork. Helps citizens' problem solve animal control issues and complaints in a proactive, professional
fashion.
Includes frequent handling, moving, and transporting of animals, behavioral and physical assessment of
animals and oversight of adoption, transfer and foster programs. Provides direct monitoring of the impound
status and maintains the body condition of the animals held at the Animal Services Facility.
Completes janitorial and light maintenance within the building and on the grounds of Animal Services;
monitors and requisitions animal/janitorial supplies used with the center.
Cleans and sanitizes animal holding areas and facility areas on a daily or as needed basis. Feed, water,
and provide ongoing evaluations of animal health according to their needs.
Provides preventative maintenance as required.
May oversee volunteer, community service individuals.
May include serving as public relations person to educate the community regarding Animal Services
functions and importance of being responsible pet owners. This could include education in schools and
community organizations, public events and television programs as assigned by the Animal Services
Manager.
Present Humane Education class as assigned by Animal Services Manager
Prepare, package, label, and transport rabies testing samples as assigned by Animal Services Manager
Oral and written communications must be clear and effective.
Works as a member of a team of professionals that fosters a safe and positive environment. Performs
other related duties as assigned by the Animal Services Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 18 years of age
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Training and / or experience in animal control, animal sheltering,
customer service or other experience working with animals preferred.
Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities
required for the job.
Licenses and Certifications:
Active Colorado Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 100 pounds. Must
be able to capture and control a wide variety of different animals if required in the facility.
Work is often in a standard office environment, but also includes driving, walking in the community in any
type of weather conditions.
Noise level is generally moderate, however can experience short-term, high decibel levels requiring
Hearing protection. May be exposed to communicable diseases.
Must be available for shift work and overtime and pager/on-call and night, (on a rotational basis).
