DESCRIPTION

Seedlings Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for young children, and will be responsible for designing and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth. The Seedlings Preschool Teacher reports to Preschool Director.

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. High School Graduate with 60 college hours including a minimum of 6 hrs. of Early Childhood Education.
  2. 1 year experience preferred working with preschool age children with a special knowledge of children’s physical, emotional, and developmental patterns.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and written, along with outstanding leadership and organizational skills are required,
  4. A successful criminal background check is required.
  5. Able to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
  6. Able to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with stated park district policy.
  7. Current CPR/AED and first aid certification preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Preparation of lesson plans & determines supplies needed.
  2. Plan and implement a variety of weekly preschool activities.
  3. Observe, evaluate, and provide feedback to the Preschool Director regarding the children’s cognitive, social and motor skills.
  4. Coordinate activities and implement monthly calendar.
  5. Cleaning and preparing the classroom daily.
  6. Interacting with children, parents, staff and park district personnel.
  7. Involvement in assisting with the implementation of planned activities.
  8. Considerable involvement managing classroom behavior, program practices and guidelines.
  9. Use age-appropriate activities and equipment.
  10. Supervise the children at all times.
  11. Some involvement in the supervising of the Preschool Aide.
  12. Considerable involvement in the care and upkeep of the classroom.
  13. Report any suspected child abuse to the Preschool Director immediately.
  14. Report any unsafe conditions; perform daily safety checks, log inspections, and complete incident reports immediately.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen, stand, walk, and use hands, sit, and stoop or kneel, bend and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  2. Specific vision requirements include distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  3. Employee must be able to follow supervisor direction with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (PERSONNEL)

  1. Assist the Preschool Director with staff training and development.
  2. Interact with children, parents, co-workers and park district staff in a positive manner.
  3. Act as a resource person to all aides.
  4. Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
  5. Maintain confidentiality regarding participant’s private information consistent with park district policy and legal requirements.
  6. Report to the preschool director any staff problems, parent concerns and behavioral problems.
  7. Greet each child and parent as they enter and exit.

SAFETY AND FACILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.
  2. Wipe tables and sweep after snack and at the end of the day.
  3. Help put up and take down equipment/supplies at the site location at the beginning and end of the program day.
  4. Keep cabinets and closets neat and clean.
  5. Must comply with all safety policies and procedures now in effect or adopted in the future.
  6. Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercises good judgment and safety awareness.
  7. Worker will use all required PPE.
  8. All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.

TRAINING DEVELOPMENT

  1. Attend staff meetings.
  2. Attend special events planned by the preschool.
  3. Must dress in an appropriate manner.
  4. Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification if currently certified.
  5. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education.
