The Preschool Instructional Assistant will support the preschool classroom by assisting the Lead Instructor in implementing developmentally appropriate practices for 3- and 4-year-old children in the Little Mountie Preschool program. The focus is on early childhood growth academically, socially, emotionally, and physically, in a caring, inclusive environment.
Support classroom activities, including small-group and large-group instruction, under the guidance of the Lead Instructor.
Assist with implementing the classroom curriculum (for example, the High Scope Pre-K Curriculum and the Everyday Mathematics program) as used by the Little Mountie Preschool program.
Monitor children’s progress, assist with observational assessments or check-lists, and help prepare documentation about student growth.
Provide care and supervision of children during classroom routines, transitions (arrival, dismissal, snack time, nap/rest time), and outdoor/play activities.
Assist with classroom setup, materials preparation, clean-up, and maintaining a safe, clean, welcoming learning environment.
Support children’s social-emotional development: help children engage positively, help resolve conflicts, encourage cooperative play, and model appropriate behavior.
Assist with communication with families: greeting parents/caregivers, sharing routine updates, and supporting the Lead Instructor in written or verbal communication.
Assist with special health or personal care needs of students as needed (for example, following directions from nurse or preschool team)
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
Previous experience working with young children (ages 3–5) is preferred but not required.
Ability to work collaboratively with the Lead Instructor, other preschool staff, and the kindergarten/elementary team.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt in a dynamic classroom environment.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including family engagement.
Passion for early childhood education and a positive, nurturing disposition.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification).
Ability to support children with a variety of needs (e.g., developmental, health, social/emotional) and follow individual plans or directives.
Must meet any state and district requirements for preschool paraprofessionals, background checks, and certifications including drug testing and fingerprinting.
