About the Department

The Director of Philanthropy is a key leadership role responsible for relaunching the Organization’s 501(c)(3). This position will develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure significant financial support for the Organization and the residents it serves through its newly updated Foundation. This position will drive revenue growth by implementing diversified fundraising initiatives, cultivating relationships with major donors, and overseeing all aspects of philanthropic giving to advance the Organization's mission, strategic goals, and resident enhancement.

Position Duties

Essential Duties + Responsibilities

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed. These essential functions require a consistent presence in the work environment on a regular basis, and regular attendance must be maintained. 


  • Relaunch the Organization’s 501(c)(3) Foundation.

  • Develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan to achieve annual and long-term revenue goals for the Foundation.

  • Identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and institutional prospects, building strong relationships to maximize philanthropic support.

  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and capital campaigns.

  • Collaborate with the grant writing process, including research, proposal development, submission, and reporting, as necessary.

  • Work with the executive team and Board of Commissioners to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities.

  • Represent the Organization at community events, networking opportunities, and donor meetings to enhance visibility and engagement.

  • Develop and manage the philanthropy department's budget, ensuring efficient and effective resource allocation.

  • Analyze fundraising data and trends to inform strategy and measure performance.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising regulations and ethical standards.

  • Develop and maintain a robust donor recognition and stewardship program.

  • Work closely with the Communications team to develop compelling fundraising collateral and messaging. Contribute to campaigns, events, and materials that elevate the company’s visibility among funders, sponsors, and influencers. Ensure consistent, high-impact messaging demonstrating mission, outcomes, and social ROI.

  • Lead strategy and execution for major gifts, sponsorships, and institutional fundraising, with annual revenue goals. This includes identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new funding partners; maintaining and expanding an active portfolio of funders and sponsors, and partnering with leadership to design creative giving opportunities. 

  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations, proposals, and pitch decks; represent the company at key industry events; and oversee stewardship efforts.

  • Lead proposal development, letters of inquiry, reports, and renewals. Collaborate with Operations departments and Community Development Initiatives to develop impactful stories and data-driven cases for support.

  • Complete all duties as assigned or requested as outlined in operational and procedural guidelines. These guidelines are maintained and issued in the event of an emergency situation that arises at a property or any other location that serves our residents or employees. 

  • Participate in Trauma Informed Care (TIC) initiatives, including training, workgroups, project assignments, etc., that are launched or implemented in order to achieve and/or maintain certification as a TIC organization.

  • Recognize the significance of a data-driven organization that adheres to expanded policies and practices in the area of data governance. Learn the distinct and different roles to include: Data Trustees, Data Domain Stewards, Data System Custodians, Data Stewards, and Data Users. Effectively collaborate with the various data roles as needed on a daily basis or in a project capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.


Experience

Required

  • Ten (10) years of experience in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with non-profit organizations and/or foundations or similar structures.

  • Must have the ability to learn and use cloud applications such as the Google GSuite applications, including but not limited to Google Chrome Browser, Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Understand document sharing and collaboration in the cloud. Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, cloud-accessible applications, including but not limited to OneDrive, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or a MAC or PC desktop equivalent, is acceptable. 

  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check, education, and work history verification, and a drug screening test.


Preferred Education and Experience 

  • Ability to learn cloud technologies such as LucidChart for diagrams, workflow, and chart drawing. Experience with Vizio or equivalent is acceptable. Basic understanding of Virtual Private Network (VPN) access to connect to internal business systems.


License + Certificates

Required

  • Texas Class “C” driver’s license at the time of placement and insurable by the organization’s fleet and liability insurance carrier.

  • Must have the ability to earn certifications as required by assigned tasks.

Technical Skills

To perform this job successfully, the employee should have


  • Knowledge and proficiency in fundraising and development

  • Proficiency in Grant Writing with the ability to write compelling grant proposals. 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the grantmaking process and compliance.

  • Excellent financial management skills to include budgeting and forecasting.

  • Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting

  • Advanced proficiency in Marketing and communications, social media strategy and management, marketing for donor acquisition and engagement, digital fundraising, and event planning.

  • Strong strategic and analytic skills.

  • Excellent oral and written skills

  • Keen attention to detail/

  • Able to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work on collaborative projects with tight timelines.

  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.

To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position. The employee must occasionally transport up to 25 pounds.
