About the Position: The Technical Sales and Applications Manager combines technical expertise, commercial acumen, and hands-on field support to drive sales growth, ensure project success, and enhance the technical capabilities of our team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of water pretreatment systems—reverse osmosis (RO), softeners, and filtration—as well as water treatment technologies including controllers, chemical feed, and injection systems.
This position plays a critical role in bridging the gap between sales, engineering, and field operations, ensuring that every proposed and delivered solution aligns with GWT’s standards of performance, reliability, and value.
Summary of Duties:
Project Scoping and Costing
- Reviewing and analyzing job requests, specifications, and client requirements for both new installations and upgrades of water treatment equipment.
- Creating accurate and comprehensive job cost lists (bills of materials, labor, and sub-contractor costs) for proposals and internal budgeting.
- Developing and presenting technical sales proposals that clearly define the scope of work, equipment selection, and anticipated performance.
- Collaborating with the sales team to ensure technical alignment and cost-effectiveness of solutions proposed to clients.
Field Support and Project Execution
- Providing high-level technical support and oversight for larger, more complex field projects, including system commissioning and troubleshooting.
- Acting as a subject matter expert on our equipment lines during project execution.
- Assisting in complex system diagnostics and optimization to ensure installed equipment meets performance guarantees and client satisfaction.
- Occasionally traveling to client sites to support critical field activities or resolve technical challenges.
Technical Training and Development
- Developing and delivering comprehensive training for new and existing field technicians, sales personnel, and internal staff to better promote department offerings internally and to clients.
- Training will focus on the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all company-offered water pretreatment and treatment equipment.
- Creating and maintaining technical documentation, manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Mentoring technical staff to elevate their problem-solving skills and technical proficiency
Qualifications / Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or field service role within the water treatment industry.
- In-depth knowledge of Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems, water softening, filtration, chemical feed, and water quality testing.
Proven ability to read and interpret complex P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical specifications.
- Strong financial acumen to accurately estimate project costs and assess profitability.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to travel locally and regionally as needed, estimated 30% travel.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, or Electrical) or a related technical field is preferred, or equivalent experience.
Working Conditions: The Technical Sales and Applications Manager is primarily a sales and training position based in a corporate or regional office environment, with frequent interaction—both virtual and in person—with Equipment Support Services, Water & Energy Services personnel, and clients. This is a hybrid role performed in an office or remote setting with frequent site visits to client facilities, which can include steam boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, industrial production facilities, health care facilities, and other technical or regulated environments.
This position may require occasional availability outside of standard business hours to address urgent operational issues, support Water & Energy Services personnel, or ensure client satisfaction. Such support may be provided via phone, email, or in person.
Periodic travel will be required, which may include visits to GWT branch locations, key client sites, or industry events. Some overnight travel should be expected, with frequency depending on business needs, geographic coverage, and the scope of active initiatives.
Physical Requirements: The Technical Sales and Applications Manager role is a hybrid between office or remote work and visits to client facilities, GWT branch locations, or operational sites. These visits can involve navigating industrial and mechanical environments such as boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, industrial production facilities, and health care facilities. The position may require walking, standing, or moving through such environments for extended periods, as well as carrying a laptop, documents, or other work materials. While the role is not routinely physically demanding, the Manager should be able to safely lift and carry items up to 50lbs when visiting sites or supporting operational needs. The ability to safely navigate areas with uneven surfaces, stairs, and tight spaces is essential when conducting site visits or inspections.
