POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety & Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for the achieving overall health and safety compliance in a professional manner by acting as the content expert or advisor on safety and emergency management. Incumbent will maintain the safety physical environment for patients, staff, and visitors by organizing and conducting drills, inspections and training. This role will be responsible for documentation of activities and follow-up concerns on safety issues. This role assists in maintaining records required by all authorities having jurisdiction with all emergency management, life safety and environment of care standards of the Joint Commission, CMS conditions of participation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for daily maintenance of incident/variance reporting system. Reviews and evaluates all reports, ensures investigation and event closures occur within policy guidelines.
- Responsible for coordination, maintenance, and implementation of the SMH Emergency Management Plan and Decon team
- Facilities debriefings and completed After Action Reports for real events.
- Oversee and revise all policies and plans related to Emergency Preparedness and Safety
- Conduct rounds on a periodic basis to assess emergency preparedness, detect violations, hazards and inappropriate work processes.
- Conducts periodic risk assessment in collaboration with the Director, Quality and Infection Prevention.
- Performs periodic organization disaster drills or code drills in collaboration with the Infection Preventionist, Quality team and department managers.
- Collaborate with facility managers and other leaders as needed to maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory standards including but not limited to Environment of Care standards, the annual Failure, Modes, and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and hazard vulnerability analysis and sentinel event reviewing and reporting.
- Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with hospital and medical staff to promote a timely and accurate flow of information related to emergency preparedness and safety.
- Assists and assures vendors and contractors are managed according to policy guidelines.
- Prepares various reports for EO and Safety that roll up to the Compliance and Quality committees.
- Collaborate and assist with Quality and Compliance programs including data collection and assisting with report preparation
- Attend the following meetings:
- Compliance Committee
- QUAC
- Patient & Life Safety
- Infection Prevention
- Pain Stewardship
- Chairs and oversees preparation of the agenda and minutes for the following:
- Emergency Preparedness Committee
- Promotes quality improvement, patient and staff safety, and cultural diversity through department operations and by personal performance.
- Able to attend conferences and seminars as needed or recommended.
- Demonstrates appropriateness in meeting objective in age -specifics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
• At least three – five (3-5) years in a hospital setting, nursing or clinical experience preferred.
• Previous experience with Emergency Operations, compliance and safety in health care setting.
• ICS Training completed or able to complete within 1 year.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively interact with employees in all levels within the organization
• Excellent writing skills, verbal communication, and presentation skills required
• Ability to work independently
• Basic computer knowledge in Word, Excel, Power Point required
• Excellent organization skills
