TRANSPORTATION – LEAD DRIVER TRAINER
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.
- Experience in North Kansas City Schools Transportation Department preferred.
- A minimum of two years of experience or applicable transportation safety training preferred.
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
JOB GOAL: To train all transportation employees and students in skills and safe practices to assure the efficient and safe transportation of the school bus passengers
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Works with the Safety Training Coordinator in training all new bus drivers and paraprofessionals in Transportation Department/district policies, and related state and federal laws.
- Trains all new bus drivers to ensure their ability to attain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger, school bus and air brake endorsements.
- Assists the Safety Training Coordinator in conducting performance evaluations on each bus driver and paraprofessional, in the work setting, to access training needs.
- Conduct road observations on bus drivers.
- Conduct Defensive Driving classes for all bus drivers.
- Conduct specific training for bus drivers and paraprofessionals of special needs students, including, but not limited to, proper wheelchair stabilization and lift procedures.
- Possess and maintain a Class B CDL with air brake, passenger and school bus endorsement.
- Drive a school bus for a regular route, trips, or activities when needed.
- Function as an integral part of the transportation management team. Works with the Router and Director of Transportation or designate on confidential labor and employment matters.
- Adheres to good safety practices.
- Demonstrates knowledge of computer skills.
- Demonstrates effective human relations and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.

CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and twelve month work calendar to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.
