What are we looking for in a Medical Assistant?
Medical Assistants are part of our Nursing Services team and provide varied clinical and administrative support to ensure the delivery of high-quality treatment for our clients. The Medical Assistant will meet with clients prior to their appointments to check vitals, obtain health history and list of current medications, and accurately record this information in the client’s health record. Medical Assistants may also assist with client education, assist with insurance authorizations, and follow up on lab results. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to build rapport quickly, and sincere compassion for clients who are experiencing significant individual and systemic challenges. The schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday 6:30am - 3:30pm. 

Medical Assistant duties may include:

CASE MANAGEMENT:

  • Provides a combination of direct service and service coordination, with internal and external resources, to assist the client with achieving identified treatment plan goals.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of community services and resources (including peer, natural, and community supports) and actively encourages individuals to access them.
  • Advocates for the client when appropriate to attain services and benefits to further recovery goals. 

CRISIS EVALUATION/INTERVENTION:

  • Utilizes appropriate crisis intervention techniques for client stabilization.
  • Accurately screens for risk to self, others, property and the presence of grave disability and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Documents and reports and/or notify as required by law.  
  • Applies QPRT (Question, Persuade, Refer or Treat) principles in assessing risk and in safety and treatment planning.
  • Develops and documents appropriate safety plans.  

 

SERVICE NOTES:

  • Completes all required service notes according to Comprehensive Healthcare’s guidelines, policies and procedures regarding format, content and timeliness.
  • Language used in service notes is respectful, clear, descriptive, concise and client-centered.
  • Service notes accurately depict treatment modalities and interventions provided within the clinician’s scope of practice and according to treatment plan 
  • Service notes accurately reflect and depict client status and progress consistent with assessment and reassessment data, problem statements and treatment plan goals and objectives.

VITALS: 

  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly take a client’s blood pressure and pulse with the machine and manually.
  • Demonstrates how to correctly measure client’s weight and height.
  • Documents client’s vitals in electronic health record. 
  • Sends a copy of the client’s vitals form along with the progress report, to the telehealth provider if applicable. 
  • Notifies nurse and/or provider if client’s vitals are not within normal limits.
  • Observes collection of urine specimen through one-way glass.  Maintains urine drug screen schedule and follows established chain of custody procedures for processing urine samples to be sent to testing lab.  Documents incoming urine test results in client log book, prepares result slips for clients and routes to primary clinician and nurse.   

COORDINATION OF PRIMARY CARE SERVICES:

  • Serves as the primary link between Comprehensive and medical clinics located within Comprehensive facilities. 
  • Serves as a primary resource for Comprehensive for identifying issues with practices, policies, or logistics that could affect successful integrated healthcare.
  • Prepares a summary of upcoming Yakima Neighborhood Health Services (YNHS) client appointments, which includes medication management notes, recent labs and relevant concerns.
  • Coordinates schedule for primary care provider appointments for identified clients.  Coordinates services with the behavioral health treatment team, including ensuring that appropriate residential and opioid treatment program paperwork is processed and available for Comprehensive staff.
  • Facilitates medical records and lab results exchange of information before and after client visit.
  • Assists with medication refills or urgent situations if needed.
  • Ensures that the YNHS clinic is used as intended with a focus on establishing care for those with serious mental illnesses, completing residential clearances and serving opioid treatment program clients
  • Serves as liaison when YNHS are not on site.

Qualifications:

  • Current certification for Medical Assistant in Washington (MA-C)
  • Driver's license, vehicle liability insurance, and satisfactory driving record
  • In compliance with state and federal law, Comprehensive Healthcare requires all candidates to complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug screen and background check.
