Summary: The Accounting and Finance Intern supports the department through project-based learning in financial reporting, costing, and data analytics. This role provides hands-on experience analyzing business performance, improving reporting accuracy, and communicating financial insights. Working closely with accounting and operations teams, the intern contributes to meaningful projects that enhance decision-making and provide broad exposure to financial processes within a manufacturing environment.

Shift Hours:

Day Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm

Wage: $21.00

Essential Functions:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below satisfactorily.

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • To assist in preparing monthly financial reports and analyzing trends in revenue, expenses, and profitability to ensure accurate and timely reporting while providing meaningful insights into company performance. To identify trends and variances that support data-driven decisions enhancing operational efficiency and business growth.
  • Product Costing
    • Support the evaluation of burden and overhead rates, including the allocation of costs for space, maintenance, and other shared resources. Conduct analysis of quarterly cost roll results to assess financial impact and ensure reasonableness. Prepare regular reports on manufacturing efficiency, providing insights on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Data Analytics Projects
    • To use tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Tableau to extract, analyze, and interpret financial data to strengthen Miller’s analytical capabilities and enhance visibility into key financial drivers. To complete projects such as updating LIFO codes for inventory calculations or developing models to calculate Net Operating Income by customer and month, contributing to improved data modeling and reporting efficiency
  • Presentation & Communication
    • To prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing internship contributions, project results, and key insights to the Miller Executive Leadership Team (MELT) to demonstrate the ability to synthesize complex financial information and communicate findings clearly and professionally.
  • Professional Development
    • To actively participate in team meetings, shadow finance professionals, and build relationships across departments to gain broad exposure to Miller Manufacturing’s operations and culture while developing technical knowledge, communication skills, and professional confidence. To conclude the internship with a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation highlighting projects completed and learning outcomes achieved.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Knowledge, Education, Experience and/or Certifications: 
    • Basic understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and cost analysis.
    • Familiarity with financial statements, budgeting concepts, and general business operations.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar data tools preferred.
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments.
    • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and apply feedback to improve performance.

Lifting Requirements: Continuously 1-10lbs, frequently 11-20lbs, occasionally 21-35lbs and rarely 35-50lbs. Never 51-100+lbs.

Movement Requirements: Continuously sitting, talking or hearing, typing. Frequently standing, reaching upward or outward, bending the neck side-to-side or front-to-back and pinching/finger manipulation. Occasionally walking, kneeling/crouch/squat and rarely climb/balance, grasping/turning the wrist. Never taste/smell.
