General Summary: This position is to primarily support and assist patients with checking in and checking out, including registration, and completion of coding and charging.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
General Requirements: All duties performed will be done accurately and in a timely manner.
1. Assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical competencies according to Gonzaba Medical Group policy.
2. Ensures customer service is always maintained at the highest level.
3. Exercise tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, visitors, providers, and co-workers.
4. Must always adhere to customer service expectations including in-person and virtual (via telephone, or telehealth applications) communication.
5. Participates in educational programs as needed.
6. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Responsibilities: All duties performed will be done accurately and in a timely manner.
1. Greets patients and provides assistance to patients for them to be processed quickly and efficiently.
2. Ensures that accurate appointment and insurance information is obtained and relayed to the patient.
3. Obtains data on each patient to ensure correct billing procedures.
4. Process registration of all new patients to include but not limited to, obtaining all necessary data, verification of insurance coverage as needed, and creation of the patient charts by coding.
5. Collects appropriate fees and co-pays at the time of registration. Issues receipts for all monies taken.
6. Prepares all patient insurance, disability, and claim forms.
7. Follows appropriate cash control procedures.
8. Balances all Patient Registration Services close outs and prepares daily bank deposits. May be expected to make bank deposits.
9. Balances cash bag at the end of the day.
10. Maintains eligibility information in the computer system.
11. Assists walk-ins and urgent care patients in obtaining appointments.
12. Makes and distributes new patient medical charts.
13. Assists patients with routine questions.
14. Answers incoming phone calls.
15. Schedules transportations.
16. Maintains a clean and professional front office area.
17. Maintains strict confidentiality following all HIPAA rules and regulations.
Work Environment: Depending upon the area assigned may be 100% clinical setting or office setting in a clinic environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Mental / Physical Requirements: Requires manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance. Close vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work efficiently under pressure.

Qualifications
Education and Training: Minimum High school diploma or equivalent. Medical Office certificate or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant, or closely related program, preferred. Ability to communicate in English & Spanish strongly preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) years’ experience in healthcare highly preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology with high attention to detail and a propensity for completeness. Experience with customer service, scheduling appointments, data entry, and medical insurance.
Other Requirements: Computer Skills: Skilled in use of computer/EMR systems. Knowledge of Word processing software, spreadsheet software, Internet, and database software.
