Role Title: Director/DP
Location: Full-time onsite (at TS Studios and on locations in the LA metro area)
Reports to: Manager, Studio and Production Services
Compensation Band: 70k - 90k
Why This Role Exists
This role is responsible for directing talent and capturing media assets. They interpret creative briefs and ensure desired outcomes are achieved. Working with Production managers and footage requestors they review creative briefs and capture the requested media as defined by the brief.
Responsibilities
Pre-Production
- Review brand and legal (B&L) guidelines and ensure all planned shots, talent, and setups comply.
- Identify gaps or blockers in briefs (missing references, unclear outcomes, or incomplete concepts) and flag early for resolution.
- Collaborate with Production Management and other stakeholders to align on the resources and support needed to achieve the results outlined in the creative brief.
Production
- Set, operate, and strike professional camera, lighting, and grip equipment, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry-standard tools.
- Film and direct in-studio and on-location shoots with strong knowledge of composition, tone, focus, and motion fundamentals, ensuring all footage meets TubeScience metadata standards (resolution, frame rate, color profile, etc.).
- Direct talent on set or remotely, providing clear guidance aligned with the creative brief and brand tone.
- Support data management: copy and organize media with checksum verification and proper file naming conventions.
- Log shot progress, issues, and changes to the plan in real time; escalate when targets aren’t met.
- Maintain set safety, etiquette, and professionalism, ensuring smooth, efficient shoots.
Post Wrap / Retro
- Deliver all assets to post-production within 24 hours after picture wrap.
- Gather feedback from stakeholders on footage quality and performance; apply insights to future shoots.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3 - 5 years of experience producing or assisting in digital content production, ideally in social, UGC, or short-form environments.
- Proficient in camera operation across multiple formats (iPhone, DSLR, mirrorless, cinema) with demonstrated understanding of exposure, frame rate, color, and visual storytelling.
- Strong working knowledge of lighting design — capable of setting and balancing key/fill/rim setups for self-contained shoots and adapting to natural light environments.
- Familiar with on-set technical workflows including data management, media handling, and shoot documentation.
- Strong organizational skills — capable of working with multiple lean productions in various stages of development.
- Clear, concise communication — written, verbal, and visual.
- Understanding of brand and legal compliance in film production & content creation.
- A proactive, resourceful mindset — willing to learn, problem-solve, and bias for action.
- Working knowledge of film set safety and best practices
