About the Role:
The MAT Coordinator plays a critical role in overseeing and managing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs within healthcare settings to support individuals struggling with substance use disorders. This position ensures the effective implementation of evidence-based treatment protocols that combine medication with counseling and behavioral therapies to improve patient outcomes. The coordinator collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams, including medical providers, counselors, and case managers, to facilitate comprehensive care plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Additionally, the role involves monitoring program compliance with regulatory standards and maintaining accurate documentation to support quality assurance and reporting requirements. Ultimately, the MAT Coordinator contributes to the reduction of addiction-related harm by promoting access to and continuity of care for patients engaged in MAT services.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices related to substance use disorder treatment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multidisciplinary collaboration and patient interactions.
- Experience working in addiction treatment or behavioral health settings, specifically with Medication-Assisted Treatment programs.
- Knowledge of FDA-approved medications used in MAT such as buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone.
- Certification in addiction counseling or MAT program coordination.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and data management.
- Training in motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care.
- CPR certification (or within 30 days of hire).
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee daily operations of the Medication-Assisted Treatment program to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans integrating medication and psychosocial support.
- Monitor patient progress and adherence to treatment protocols, adjusting care plans as necessary in consultation with clinical staff.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing MAT programs, including documentation and reporting.
- Provide training and support to staff on MAT best practices and emerging treatment modalities.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare teams, and external agencies to facilitate access to resources and continuity of care.
- Collect and analyze program data to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
Skills:
The required skills in addiction treatment are applied daily to assess patient needs and coordinate comprehensive care plans that integrate medication and therapeutic interventions. The MAT Coordinator uses clinical knowledge to ensure adherence to treatment protocols and to educate patients and staff about the benefits and risks of MAT medications. Strong communication and organizational skills facilitate collaboration among healthcare providers, patients, and external partners, ensuring continuity and quality of care. Preferred skills such as motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care enhance patient engagement and support recovery-oriented approaches. Additionally, proficiency with data management and regulatory compliance tools helps the coordinator monitor program effectiveness and maintain high standards of care.
