Description

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports the overall Human Resources and recruiting, training, performance management, safety, benefits, payroll, and employee relations. Provides leadership and takes an active role in all HR related matters, and provides counsel and advice regarding issues that arise as well as, supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in recording hours of work, processing time records, maintaining payroll control records, and calculating payrolls .

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the consistent application of Human Resources (HR) activities (i.e. employment, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations).
  • Responsible for benefit plan interpretation, communication, and enrollment including the standard benefits package and retirement plans.
  • Writes and delivers presentations regarding human resources policies and procedures
  • Responsible for Safety committee meetings, Incident investigation and help with corrective action
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Assists in the development and presentation of management training in Company human resources policies and supervision/management training.
  • Conducts new-hire training programs (Orientation, etc.).
  • Performs recruiting process including: placement of advertisements, screening and interviewing applicants, coordinating hiring process and pre-employment testing.
  • Prepares necessary documentation for employee onboarding, termination, resignation, etc. Conducts exit interviews.
  • Maintains confidentiality within HR Department at all times.
  • Reviews, or directs review of, personnel records to determine names, rates of pay, and occupations of newly hired workers, and changes in wage rates and occupations of employees on payroll.
  • Records, or directs recording of, new or changed pay rates in payroll register or computer files.
  • Directs computation of pay according to company policy.
  • Responsible for functions and performance of Payroll
  • Reviews and approves payroll deductions.
  • Interprets company policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures.
  • Directs preparation of government reports.
  • Reviews payroll to ensure accuracy.
  • Monitors Compliance for: Proper employee documentation, Workers compensation reporting, Medical Insurance qualifications, EDD salary audits.
  • Responsible for quarterly and year-end tax returns, W2s and other projects as assigned.
  • Issues written and oral instructions.
  • Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
  • Produces and/or edits various reports for management on PC.
  • Custodian of all field employee records.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Adjusts errors and complaints.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Human Resources Manager and/or the CFO.
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures related to all facets of the job.

Qualifications


 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Two (2) to three (3) years Human Resources experience, preferably in the capacity of Human Resources Administrative Support or HR Generalist.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience, or Human Resource certification
  • Experience and/or exposure to employment law and regulatory compliance a plus.
  • Recruiting experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to read, write and comprehend English and some Spanish.
  • Utmost professional demeanor, etiquette and confidentiality.
  • Sense of urgency and self-motivation; ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned projects.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Computer literacy with ability to learn new computer software programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in MS Excel.
  • Detail oriented and accurate
  • Familiarity with government rules and regulations (SB 198, ADA, INS Regulations, etc.)
  • Good supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressures

 

Must be able to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
