Opportunity Summary

The Fleet Services Engineer assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. This position will be expected to support various projects as determined by the Fleet Engineering Manager. The Heritage Project comprises 16 power plant locations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Ohio.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include providing engineering support to the Heritage Project plants, including but not limited to the following:

  • Serve as a technical resource to all plant personnel to ensure reliable and efficient operation of equipment and systems.
  • Collaborate with project owners and site management on operational and maintenance strategies that optimize plant performance and longevity.
  • Track and analyze overall fleet and plant performance, including combustion turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Identify, trend, and analyze heat rate and efficiency data; recommend operational or technical modifications to maximize profitability.
  • Perform root cause analyses of equipment failures, recommend corrective actions, and implement long-term reliability improvements.
  • Conduct reliability studies to enhance unit availability and capacity factors across multiple facilities.
  • Evaluate plant designs and propose cost-effective engineering solutions to reduce operating expenses and improve performance.
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate procedures to ensure site drawings, documentation, and engineering records remain current and accurate.
  • Serve as Project Manager for capital, reliability, and improvement projects across the Heritage fleet.
  • Develop and administer contracts, scopes of work, and project schedules to ensure efficient use of internal and contractor resources.
  • Manage capital improvement projects to ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, and contractual guarantees.
  • Prepare required technical and performance reports for plant owners, utilities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Fully support and participate in NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs to ensure all activities are performed safely and in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall success of the Heritage Project and Fleet Engineering Department.

Working Relationships

The Fleet Service Engineer will report to the O&M Support Manager and will coordinate with operations on matters concerning the client and the operation of the plants.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Fleet Services Engineer works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or “On call” status will also be required.

Regular travel to plant sites is required to support operations, along with occasional travel to Manager, Owner, and User Group meetings or other offsite events.

Compensation

This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $105,000 to $120,000 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Professional Expertise & Qualifications

We are seeking a Plant Engineer with a passion for excellence in plant operations and maintenance, a work history demonstrating progressively increasing responsibilities, and prior experience in a power plant environment.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required, with a preference for Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. An educational background with concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety, is highly desirable. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience in power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering support is preferred, particularly within natural gas, oil-fired, or combined-cycle facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve technical and operational issues affecting plant performance across multiple sites.
  • Experience conducting root cause analyses, developing corrective actions, and implementing long-term reliability improvements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Project, with the ability to develop and maintain technical reports, data analyses, and project documentation.
  • Experience using performance monitoring and data analysis platforms, such as EtaPro and/or OSI PI, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with computer programming or data processing tools (e.g., Python, HTML, or VBA) is a plus, particularly for automating performance tracking and report generation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to plant personnel, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple facilities and functions in a fast-paced, technical environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvement in all aspects of engineering and plant operations.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
