The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD is expanding our psychiatry team! The Psychiatrist Lead, Forensics Chronic Care supervises the chronic care prescribers, performs psychiatric evaluations and treatment interventions for chronic care patients within the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) jail facility, and ensures chronic care department operates with efficiency to maintain standards of care. Collaborates with the Forensic Medical Director, jail Mental Health Administrator and other clinical staff to assure the quality of clinical services provided and compliance with regulatory requirements. On call duties may be required.

 

Your Role in Action:

  • Serves as a role model through the provision of positive and supportive leadership, direction to the multidisciplinary treatment team. This is to facilitate continuity and effective clinical care delivery.
  • Works with the Chronic Care - Triage RN to ensure standards of care are being met.
  • Performs psychiatric evaluations and staffing as needed. 
  • Collaborates with the Mental Health Administrator and Forensic Medical Director to assure compliance with contract, quality management and regulatory requirements.
  • Manages routine and emergency psychiatric care by assessment, formulating and directing treatment interventions through collaboration with the treatment teams as needed.
  • Works collaboratively in consultation with Lead Psychiatrist to institute actions enhancing the quality of psychiatric services rendered to patients.
  • Utilizes TIMA guidelines in the provision of patient care. 
  • Complies with The HARRIS CENTER and HCSO policies and procedures, accrediting/regulatory bodies and contractual requirements.
  • Performs other related work as assigned. Adapts to changing work requirements.

What qualifications you will need:

Experience Required:

  • Graduation from Accredited Medical School and Psychiatric Residency Program 
  • Must be Board eligible (and preferably Board certified in General Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry or Board eligible or certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry).
  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas (Psychiatry) according to the Texas Board of Medical Examiners.

Experience:

  • Must have experience in a psychiatric setting (prefer minimum of 12 months). Experience in a correctional setting preferred. 

Required Knowledge, Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of various therapeutic modalities and DSM-IV diagnostic evaluation.
  • Must have basic knowledge of principles of the development, implementation and documentation of individualized care and treatment.
  • Must have the ability to evaluate patients, set up and carry out an effective course of treatment utilizing the expertise of other clinical personnel with a minimum of direction.
  • Must have the ability to work collaboratively with other professional groups
