The Counseling Center strives to promote the optimal health of all currently enrolled WCU students through the provision of quality and culturally competent mental health services and education for the campus community. Through a coordinated team approach to client services, the Counseling Center provides optimal coordinated care, ensures continuity of services, and facilitates and monitors response to mental health needs to support student success.

The Assistant Referral Specialist position coordinates case management, monitors referrals, promotes coordination of care through collaboration among departments and agencies, ensures open communication, and facilitates coordination and continuity of care in complex cases. This position works to understand the diverse needs and backgrounds of WCU students and collaborates with faculty, department psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists, other University health care professionals and staff to provide optimal care. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience supporting college students, working with insurance companies and answering benefits questions, a knowledge of mental health resources in Chester County and the surrounding areas; and commitment to a providing coordinated care for a diverse campus student community in collaboration with faculty, staff and other University partners. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Review insurance benefits including coverage, deductibles, and co-pays
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of insurance provider processes and changes to insurance policies
  • Schedule appointments or provide email referrals to students for off-campus services
  • Stay up to date on resources for mental health and voluntary and involuntary hospitalization
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of the referral resources database
  • Develop individualized referral lists for students
  • Help students connect with off-campus providers and resources
  • Follow up with students and provide on-going referral assistance as needed
  • Maintain contact with at-risk students who are waiting for services to ensure safety and timely client care
  • Communicate policies and procedures related to assessment and referral processes to parents, faculty, staff, and other campus partners
  • Attend the weekly faculty meeting to keep apprised of the Center’s needs
  • Complete documentation using the electronic medical record database (Titanium)
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Duties

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Social Work, Counselor Education, Clinical Psychology or a related area
  • One year of work experience in mental health management or case management

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited program in Social Work, Counselor Education, Clinical Psychology or a related area
  • Licensure (LSW, LCSW, or LPC) or Certification (NCC)
  • Experience working withmental health providers and community service agencies
  • Experience working with insurance companies and benefits programs
  • Experience working with electronic medical record databases (Titanium)
  • Experience supporting college students

Other Qualifications

This hybrid position blends in-office and remote work.

Salary and benefits are dictated by the State College and University Professional Association (SCUPA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.
