JA Equipment Leasing, Inc., a division of JA Group, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Diesel Technician. This position will be responsible for assisting Fleet Technicians and Fleet Manager by learning to perform preventative maintenance inspections and learning to diagnose and repair as required to prevent breakdowns, reduce vehicle down time and improve fleet reliability.
Our mechanics are responsible for servicing both the JA Frate fleet of vehicles as well as external clients' fleets. This is a great opportunity for a mechanic with 1-2 years experience to join a strong and stable company with the ability to continue to expand their skills.
The schedule is Monday - Friday, 4pm - 12am in our Crystal Lake facility. Some overtime may be required based on work load.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Learn to perform required inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and other company equipment to maximize safety, reliability and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
- Learn to perform DOT annual inspections on all vehicles.
- Learn to perform preventative maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet vehicles and other company equipment.
- Learn to perform maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles and other company equipment.
- Learn to diagnose causes of any malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications on all equipment systems and other company equipment.
- Address Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (VIR’s) as assigned in a timely and efficient manner.
- Learn to enter data documenting all work performed into Fleet Maintenance System.
- Learn computer based diagnostic software for OEM’s and component manufacturers
- Pass ASE Certifications as assigned in your individual development plan.
- All work performed will be under the guidance of a Fleet Technician II, III or Fleet Manager.
- Maintain all tools and equipment in clean, safe working order.
- Adhere to all safety requirements, wear proper Personal Protective Equipment as required.
- Interact effectively, build relationships and demonstrate a high level of cooperation.
- Comply with OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Will be required to complete all general company and job specific safety training.
- Adhere to company and department policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, housekeeping and attendance.
Requirements
- Enter work orders into maintenance software system
- Preventative maintenance on tractors and trailers
- Perform oil changes and greasing
- Minor electrical diagnostics and repair
- Perform brake adjustments and replacements
- Perform clutch adjustments
- Replace lights on tractors and trailers
- Tire installation
- Winterization of equipment
- Pick up parts, when needed
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Experience operating trucks and/or tractors
- Ability to communicate repair issues to Manager or lead mechanic daily
- Ability to legibly and accurately complete required paperwork
- Ability to accurately enter data in to work order system
- Ability to manage time efficiently, completing work in time allotted
- Basic knowledge of all vehicle systems and components.
- Basic Annual Inspector Certification knowledge, preferred but not required
- Basic Brake Inspector Certification knowledge, preferred but not required
- Technicians must provide their own basic tools necessary to perform maintenance inspections and repairs; Diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by JAF.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Diesel Technician technical training in 1-to-2-year school program plus 1-2 years of experience OR 3 years of
- experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
- CDL A or B preferred
Physical Demands
- Must be able to stand/walk on feet for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to frequently climb in and out of vehicles.
- Must be able to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects.
- Must be able to frequently reach overhead with shoulders, arms and hands.
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.
- Must be able to speak, hear and see clearly – have the ability to adjust focus of vision, especially at night.
