The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a full-time position of Research Assistant. The Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry is seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join our NCEL Lab. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both neuroscience and psychology with an emphasis on cognitive neuroscience, hands-on experience with EEG and MRI studies, and advanced programming skills. In this role, the Research Assistant will contribute to ongoing studies of brain development and function in children and adolescents, supporting projects from protocol development through data analysis

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain EEG and MRI data analysis pipelines to ensure accuracy, reproducibility, and compliance with project protocols (weekly).
  • Assist in developing and updating EEG and MRI data collection protocols, including equipment setup, calibration, and troubleshooting (daily/weekly as studies are active).
  • Collect and manage participant data, including obtaining informed consent, scheduling, and guiding participants through study procedures (daily).
  • Perform statistical analyses on neuroimaging and behavioral datasets using SPSS, Jamovi, Python, R, or MATLAB (weekly/monthly).
  • Program and test computerized cognitive tasks using MATLAB (PsychToolbox), FieldTrip, or similar platforms (as needed per study).
  • Set up, manage, and maintain online surveys and research databases (e.g., REDCap with branching/automation, Qualtrics) to support participant tracking and study data collection (ongoing).
  • Prepare figures, reports, and presentations for lab meetings, manuscripts, and conference submissions (monthly/quarterly).
  • Assist with participant recruitment and scheduling, including outreach, communication, and maintaining accurate scheduling logs (ongoing).
  • Ensure compliance with IRB protocols and data security standards, maintaining accurate documentation and promptly reporting deviations (ongoing).
  • Coordinate with research team members (faculty, staff, students, and collaborators) to ensure smooth study operations and effective communication (weekly).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Neuroscience, General Psychology, or a related quantitative field; OR Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related field with at least (2) years of directly relevant research experience; OR At least (6) years of directly relevant research experience.
  • At least (1) year of prior experience with EEG and MRI data collection and analysis.
  • At least (1) year of applied experience in signal processing, including spectral analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency (at least 1 year of applied experience) in programming with Python, R, and MATLAB, including the use of
  • PsychToolbox and FieldTrip for task programming and data analysis.At least (1) year of experience performing statistical testing using software such as SPSS and Jamovi.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least (1) year of experience configuring and managing REDCap projects (including branching logic and automated features) and Qualtrics projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple research tasks and meet project deadlines with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
