English Language Learners | Liaison Interpreter/Translator na Fort Wayne Community Schools

PURPOSE

Provide oral interpreting and written translation services for language minority students and their families. Serve as a liaison between language minority families, FWCS, schools, and personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduation from high school.
• Must possess knowledge of the general aspects, methods, processes, principles, practices, procedures and terminology used in assigned field.
• Must be proficient in English and at least one other language.
• Must have strong oral and written communication skills and must be able to transport self to various locations within the FWCS district.

PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS

• College degree, training in the field of translation and interpreting, recognized certification in translation and/or interpreting.
• Two years of experience in translation and/or interpreting, and experience working with students or families in a social services or educational environment

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide interpretation and translation services to facilitate communications among students, faculty, staff, parents and others; utilize appropriate register of the language and intent of the speaker. Serve as a liaison between language minority families, FWCS, schools, and personnel.
• Interpret for meetings, conferences, telephone calls, counseling functions, field trips, assemblies, and various other events and activities. Assist families with enrolling and completing required forms and applications
• Translate written communications between FWCS personnel, schools, outside agencies and limited or non-English speaking families.
• Connect all district personnel to other languages via agencies
• Keep a call log from other companies we used for billing purposes
• Keep our online system up to date: translations request, family contacts and Interpreting appointments
• Making sure all assignments are done on a timely matter
• Make sure our call center is covered at all times
• Proofread and approve all district translation before submitting

• Mobility: Freedom to sit or walk at will throughout the work environment.
• Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to twenty-five (25) pounds or more.
• Outdoor Work: Tolerance of work outside in various weather conditions.
