In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for supervising and directing the daily workflow within the department while maintaining the security of the pharmacy as well as staffing the pharmacy as needed to ensure optimal workflow. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.
Job Functions:
- Works with all Technicians in assuring that all regulatory and best practices are met.
- Assists technicians in assuring that all purchasing and operational responsibilities are carried out effectively, efficiently, and in a timely fashion.
- Serves as a positive role model for technicians in all areas. Organizes training of new technicians. Coaches’ improvement where needed, using a supportive style that encourages and engages.
- Develops and reviews technician schedule, including inspections, audits, and other projects, and assures prompt posting. Organizes coverage and engages others to help where needed.
- Educates and presents changes or new operational procedures in a way that engages the team.
- Performs service recovery, engages others to improve customer service and pharmacy processes, and resolves conflicts where needed.
- Partners with nursing to ensure accurate, timely, and safe medication use processes.
- Point of contact for drug distribution problem solving, process improvement, and implementation of new workflows and processes.
- Engage others to implement best practices for safety.
- Coordinates time, agenda, and leads technician meeting discussions as appropriate.
- Helps manage expenses, whether personnel, medications, or supplies.
- Provides feedback to manager and team coordinator.
- Participates in annual PMP process for technicians.
- Assists with ensuring each technician completes annual competencies.
- Processes payroll.
- Maintains morale of pharmacy technicians. Engages and supports staff. Identifies behaviors, frustrations, processes needing improvement, and other opportunities to remove negativity or barriers to teamwork, and engages others in making the needed improvements. Helps willingly where needed. Strives to help each person and the entire pharmacy team to be successful
- Promotes good working relationships and collaboration between technicians and pharmacists.
- Models the Sentara Commitments
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as requested by the director of pharmacy.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
- GED/High School Diploma required.
- Minimum three years of Pharmacy Technician experience required; experience in a hospital environment preferred.
- Certified Tech in the State of Ohio with an active National license required.
Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:
- Proficiency with Word, Excel and Power Point preferred.
- Typing, interpersonal and ability to clearly communicate tasks required.
- Willingness and ability to perform chemotherapy compounding if needed (willing to train).
Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
