Position Overview: The Associate Director of Employer Relations and Operations contributes to the overall strategic direction of the Carleton Career Center by developing and leading the center’s employer engagement and recruiting strategy, developing relationships with key employers, family, and alumni stakeholders, and ensuring the seamless integration of signature programs and communication in the Center’s overall career education strategy.
The Associate Director serves as a member of the Career Center’s leadership team, providing direct supervision to the employer relations, communications, and alumni and parent engagement roles. The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Carleton Career Center.
Compensation:
The expected starting salary range for this position is between $86,300 and $89,100. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Employer Relations and Operations contributes to the overall strategic direction of the Carleton Career Center by developing and leading the center’s employer engagement and recruiting strategy, developing relationships with key employers, family, and alumni stakeholders, and ensuring the seamless integration of signature programs and communication in the Center’s overall career education strategy.
The Associate Director serves as a member of the Career Center’s leadership team, providing direct supervision to the employer relations, communications, and alumni and parent engagement roles. The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Carleton Career Center.
Employer, Alumni, Parent, and Volunteer Engagement (40%)
- Identify and create strategic employer development and recruiting plans, reviewing state, regional, national, and international data in concert with current student data to identify employer and industry targets to strengthen and deepen recruiting relationships for full-time jobs and internships.
- Maintain accurate records for employer engagement, volunteerism, and student outcomes related to recruiting partnerships and lead efforts to report on established metrics.
- Lead efforts to connect students with industry partners, including employers, graduate schools, alumni, parents, and friends of the college with selected career communities (e.g., Business, Finance, and Consulting; Data, Technology, and Entrepreneurism; Law and Advocacy).
- Collaborate with campus partners to work together to enhance existing relationships with employers, and continue to build pipelines of opportunities.
- Provide employer and industry insights to the Career Center staff to assist the team to support students and alumni with timely and relevant career development advice across all industry interest areas.
- Create and manage systems for employer, alumni, parent, and volunteer engagement opportunities and recruitment in collaboration with the Program Director for Alumni and Parent Engagement.
Program management (20%)
- In consultation with the Director, and Associate Director responsible for career coaching, the Associate Director for Employer Relations and Operations will collaborate in overseeing the design and implementation of the Career Center’s signature programs including externships, funded internships, career exploration, and skill development programs to support the overall Career Center strategy.
Supervision and Management (30%)
- Provide direct supervision to professional staff in functional areas including employer relations, alumni and parent engagement, and communications with a focus on team-building and development.
- Foster a systems thinking or curricular approach to career education, working to integrate the work of the team such that resources and time are used intentionally and efficiently to support students.
Education/Experience/Skills:
Required:
- Master’s Degree, plus five years’ experience in a higher education, strong preference for prior experience in a career services, recruiting, or human resources role.
- Experience supervising professional staff, with a commitment to developing individuals and teams
- Demonstrate experience employing strong interpersonal skills to build networks and relationships, particularly with external constituencies
- Experience with strategic planning or program design, including the ability to forecast needs and implement an outreach and engagement strategy
- Computer skills, including familiarity with online recruiting technology and career services management systems, particularly Handshake
- Knowledge of student learning and program assessment techniques, with a track record of commitment to data-driven practice
- A deep interest in a liberal arts education and commitment to student life and learning.

Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
