The Senior Accountant, a key member of the Accounting and Financial Services (AFS) Automotive Accounting team will be responsible for recording financial transactions, maintaining the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, performing period closing functions in Oracle, preparing reports and supporting schedules, overseeing assigned inventory areas, and assisting with audits for automotive-related transactions. This role involves collaborating with the Accounting Supervisor to develop, maintain, and enhance documentation, workflows, and process narratives, leading new initiatives, as well as training, developing, and supporting the accounting staff.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure proper accounting of transactions, reserves, and other estimates in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies. Stay current with industry, regulatory, and technical accounting developments to identify and communicate potential impacts
- Prepare and file regulatory reports and other compliance deliverables on a monthly, annual, and ad-hoc basis
- Ownership over the automotive accounting functions as assigned including related monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
- Review and analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other schedules prepared by staff accountants ensuring timely completion of all deliverables. Document review comments and provide guidance and other feedback
- Complete assigned account reconciliations, resolving discrepancies and unreconciled items in a timely and accurate manner
- Plans, coordinates and executes inventory counts with operations. Timely analyze the resulting adjustments to determine further action needed
- Oversee internal audits, external audits, and special reviews including preparation or review of schedules, analysis, documentation, and explanations
- Provide support services to stakeholders as required, including independently resolving issues impacting assigned areas, serving as an escalation point for accountants, and using professional judgment when to escalate to management
- Researching errors / irregularities in the accounting process under the Senior Accountant’s ownership to fully understand the underlying causes, then identify and recommend potential solutions
- Collaborate with operational teams to manage end-to-end workflow processes for accurate and timely transaction recording
- Develop, maintain, and review internal controls and process documentation; ensure compliance with such documentation
- Lead and support process improvement and automation initiatives, including developing workflows using automation tools
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- MBA preferred
- Minimum three years of senior accountant level work experience with general ledger accounting, period closing, estimates and reserves calculation, account reconciliation, analysis, inventory analysis and/or financial reporting
- Diversified and industry experience in retail, manufacturing and automotive and/or work experience with a big-4 national CPA firm preferred
- CPA preferred
- Technical accounting knowledge (GAAP)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Oracle Financial Cloud and dealer management systems knowledge
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Analytical thinker with ability to structure and process qualitative or quantitative data and draw insightful conclusions from it
- Ability to independently and resourcefully seek out ways to find resolution to problems by performing the necessary research to understand the root cause(s) and evaluate various ways that it can be resolved
- Ability to stay engaged with a critical eye to the details. Ability to have communication and work products be clear and concise. Ability to determine the appropriate level of detail needed in various communications based on audience
- Ability to know when to take a step back to be able to see how one’s tasks fit into the bigger picture and determines what can be done currently to ensure challenges and issues would be averted downstream in the workflow
- Ability and innate willingness to be self-motivated to complete the duties that comes with this role. Must be able to be resourceful to acquire knowledge necessary to complete tasks at hand or to resolve issues
