Summary

Receive and assist patients, physicians, and/or visitors in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner. Perform all general clerical duties related to the efficient functioning of the department including, but not limited to, monitoring patient flow in waiting areas, assisting with patient paperwork, answering the telephone, and referring calls to the appropriate areas or individuals in the department. As applicable, assist with patient prep for procedures. Perform all other duties as assigned. 

 

Responsibilities

•    Serves as the first contact for patients presenting for medical services. Greets patients, visually  
and verbally assesses patient for any accommodations they may require and works with other Patient Access staff and/or medical staff to ensure a continuity of patient care during the registration process. 
•    Implements and maintains an accurate system for gathering and distributing patient information  
that is necessary for the efficient and timely flow of patients through the registration process. 
•    As applicable, adds scheduled patients to At a Glance and/or gathers necessary information from  
unscheduled patients to create a scheduled visit and then adds patient to At a Glance. As applicable, gathers patient information and performs a Quick Registration in Paragon to enable patient to be added to the tracking board. 
•    Receives, screens, and refers all incoming phone calls and visitors to ensure that accurate and  
timely department communication is facilitated and that the department(s) is represented in a positive manner. 
•    Continually assesses patient registration waiting areas for cleanliness and maintenance. Takes proper measures or contacts appropriate personnel to clean or maintain patient waiting areas as necessary to help ensure a positive patient experience. 
•    Maintain skill set and competencies to serve as a backup Patient Access Specialist as staffing needs require. As applicable, assist Patient Access staff and/or medical staff with requests necessary for discharging patients or transferring patients out of the department. 
 

 

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

 Preferred:  Associate degree. 

 Minimum:  High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. 

Experience

 Preferred: 2 years General-Executive Secretary/Administrative Assistance Preferred. 3 years Medical Staff Office Preferred. 

Special Skills

Minimum: Type 35 wpm. Must be able to operate computer, copier, and other equipment pertinent to the  
position. Excellent communication and public relation skills required.  Knowledge of medical terminology a plus.
