Work Hours
The general work hours for this part-time position will average 15-20 hours per week and may be scheduled flexibly in coordination with the supervisor. Standard office hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, this position may occasionally require additional hours-including evenings, weekends, or holidays-to support events or time-sensitive projects.
Work Location
This position will primarily work remotely, with required in-person attendance at City Hall (501 Virginia Street East) for meetings, project coordination, or events approximately once per week, or as otherwise scheduled by the supervisor.
Primary Purpose
The Constituent Services Team promotes responsive, professional, and consistent engagement with the public. The Communications Assistant supports this mission through written communications, digital content management, and customer service.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree or certificate in communications, public relations, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in communications, marketing, administrative support, or customer service.
- Experience drafting or editing written content such as web copy, newsletters, or press releases preferred.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) preferred.
- Experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter) for professional purposes.
- Understanding of communication principles, attention to accuracy and tone.
- Experience in government, nonprofit, or community-focused organizations is helpful.
Licenses/Certifications
- None required.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and tone.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new software tools, including CMS and CRM systems.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
Additional Qualifications
- Must provide documentation verifying legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Proficiency in English-reading, writing, and speaking-to communicate effectively and understand policies and safety instructions.
