Range Explanation:
Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.
This is a part-time intermittent position, the classification provides public library programs and services, including the provision of reference and research services, and collection acquisition in alignment with the library’s mission and strategic plan. A Librarian may supervise interns and volunteers. It is distinguished from the Librarian I job classification by its focus on system-wide programs or service levels.
This position may be required to work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Develops, facilitates, and presents evidence-based educational programs and services, including early literacy, outreach activities, and technology instruction (in-person or virtual);
Participates in system-wide committee meetings and mentors staff, incorporating best practices from relevant trainings and workshops;
Provides direct public library services, including computer instruction for children, teens, and adults;
Interacts with the public at the information desk, through library programs, or in community outreach activities;
Coordinates and participates in internal and external services, including accounting, payroll, IT, scheduling, personnel issues, customer service, and library programming;
Manages and prioritizes workload, monitors resource levels, establishes timelines, assigns tasks, and reviews reports prepared by staff;
Plans and coordinates library programs and manages the annual division budget in alignment with service level needs;
Promotes and educates customers on library collections and electronic resources, including outreach to various community sectors (public, school, private, legal, medical, etc.);
Performs or coordinates collection maintenance, including recommending new acquisitions and applying professional standards in culling outdated materials;
Creates, maintains, and analyzes databases to monitor customer feedback, community demographics, and prepare reports and recommendations;
Manages the library’s social media accounts and communicates updates to the public according to county policies;
Ensures the appropriate security and confidentiality of information encountered or created in library services;
Provides assistance to the public by offering community resource information, particularly for vulnerable individuals in challenging life circumstances;
Participates in the review and development of the library collection, recommending acquisitions and the removal of outdated materials;
Contributes to and support outreach efforts for library programs and services, engaging with schools, community groups, and neighborhood associations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in library science (M.L.S.) from an accredited college or university.
(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

Master's degree in library and information science.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Minimum one (1) year of experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Minimum one (1) year of experience working in a public library.
Minimum one (1) year of experience working with children, youth and teens in a recreation, social services, coaching, or educational setting.
Selection Procedure:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Supplemental Information:
Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
