JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Lead Residency Coordinator serves as the subject matter expert in education, and has responsibility for recruitment, training, performance, compliance, credentialing, program agreements, and reporting processes for the educational programs in the Department of Surgery. In addition to administering education programs in the department, this position directs the work of other members of the departmental education team. This position is responsible for overseeing the educational programs within the Department of Surgery and supervising coordinators who manage the residency program, fellowship program, and medical student clerkship.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversees, plans, coordinates, manages, and participates in curriculum development. 
  2. Creates, interprets, and communicates policies, procedures, and reporting requirements to residents, fellows, and faculty to ensure compliance with ACGME, Fellowship Council, ABS, ERAS, GME, NRMP, ACS and other regulatory agencies.
  3. Manages and coordinates the credentialing of residents with area hospitals.
  4. Creates, monitors, and oversees the training manuals, orientation materials, rotation schedules, conference schedules, call schedules, in-training examinations, evaluation processes, verification processes, board eligibility issues, development opportunities, duty hours, and other related tasks completed by staff coordinators.
  5. Oversees and manages the accreditation processes by understanding the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements for institutional, core, and program requirements and communicates requirements to all program coordinators, program directors, and associate program directors.
  6. Advises faculty, residents, and staff on human resource processes, policies, and procedures.
  7. Manages all processes and aspects associated with the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) for general surgery.
  8. Manages and supervises Program Coordinators that provide educational support for the department of surgery residency program, fellowship programs, and medical students.
  9. Plans, creates, and provides recruitment brochures and materials to applicants.
  10. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree. (Master’s Degree preferred). (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of work experience in an office setting; OR Master’s Degree and in lieu of experience; OR a combination of education and experience to equal six (6) years. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational and operational management skills that include managing and coordinating multiple priorities and projects, human resources, experience with graduate medical education programs and supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written, with the ability to relate to people at all levels of the organization in the research, education, and clinical enterprises.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to lead and work as a team member.
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgment in making well-reasoned and timely decisions, knowing the limitations of authority.
  • Skills in long-range planning and goal setting.
  • Knowledge of graduate medical education and ACGME.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and evaluation processes.
  • Computer skills - Microsoft Office, etc.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May require occasional overnight travel.
