The Mechanical Design Engineer activities range broadly from the design and development of new and existing semiconductor assemblies, through to the advice and system support given to customers, suppliers and other IXYS UK Westcode departments.
This role is based on-site in Chippenham and reports directly to the Engineering Lead – SBU Stacks.
About the job:
To analyse customer and IXYS UK Westcode requests for products and assemblies, formulating them into economic, fully specified designs capable of meeting all the requested engineering parameters.
To liaise closely through meetings and visits with customers, suppliers and other IXYS UK Westcode departments from the outset to ensure that project schedules, engineering specification targets and project completion forecasts are met.
To develop strong relationships and work closely with the Quality Assurance department in assessing the quality and reliability of complete designs to ensure they comply with the relevant specifications and customer requirements.

About you:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
At least 2 years of experience in a design environment, ideally supporting an onsite production facility
Skilled CAD user (preferably SolidWorks)
Experience with Simulation, Flow Analysis, FEA, or CFD is an advantage
Strong knowledge of materials (e.g., silver, copper)
Creative thinker with a passion for innovation
Proactive self-starter, eager to learn and apply new concepts
Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
