Chief Engineer – EC&I - Submarines

The Chief Engineer -EC&I will

  • Work collaboratively with the EC&I General Manager and relevant Heads of Engineering to deliver products and services through the complete lifecycle. They will develop and market the vision and strategy for EC&I products and services.  They will assess and manage technical programme risk and assure product safety

  • Be responsible for EC&I through the complete product lifecycle, including design, development, build, test, verification, validation, operation and disposal. This will cover multiple programmes requiring engagement with multiple programme Chief Engineers

  • Define the scope and extent of the technical programmes of work required to deliver EC&I products and services. These programmes of work will largely be delivered through engineering teams directly within their organisation.  The organisation will operate in accordance with extant processes and business management systems to deliver right-first-time outputs that meet the Quality-Cost-Delivery challenge placed by the programme Chief Engineers.

  • Define and maintain the EC&I engineering to support products and services well into the future.  They will work closely with the Heads of Capability to ensure the long-term strategic management of that capability within the Submarines business and supply chain

Responsibilities

  • Develop and market the vision for the EC&I products and services across all programmes within the Submarines business

  • Definition and execution of the EC&I products and services strategy with a particular focus on future capability requirements

  • Definition of sub-delegation of key accountabilities through a structured management arrangement to ensure effective discharge of engineering accountabilities (to support timely and effective decision making) whilst retaining demonstrable control

  • Definition and execution of an appropriate programme of technical activities to provide the through-life validation of the current and future designs

  • Definition and execution of appropriate packages of technical activities to maintain and develop the assured engineering capabilities and technical methods associated with the EC&I products and services

  • Management of non-conformance against design intent throughout the product lifecycle (in manufacture, build, commissioning, and maintenance) to ensure that the known configuration and condition of the product is consistent with the safety-justified baseline and hence safe and responsible operation of the plant is not undermined

  • Responsible for assurance of technical and safety output from Engineering teams. Ensure proportionate and effective engineering governance and independent assurance is applied to all programmes of work. Ensure that this is consistent with the NRP safety cases

  • Ensure appropriate due process is followed, lessons are learned following and during programmes of work and that opportunities for continuous improvement are identified, prosecuted, and delivered

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
