Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for an Operator 2 to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor, the Operator 2 – Support Equipment is a team member of the Mine Operations department and is responsible for manipulating heavy equipment in a safe manner by performing maintenance checks, implementing safety measures, handling inventories, repairing and maintaining equipment, and removing debris. This role must ensure work is performed in accordance with health, safety,and environmental and legislative requirements.

 

This position is located at the Mine site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous health, safety, and environment advocate, adhere to and promote health, safety and environmental standards, policies and procedures.
  • Operate the excavator and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Conducts pre-trip/walk-around safety inspections and completes daily Field Level Hazard Assessments for all activities.
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently to meet production targets.
  • Perform such duties as grading, sloping, and ditching.
  • Maintains equipment in good operating condition, reporting and logging maintenance requirements or concerns.
  • Mentor, coach and train apprentices.
  • Follow all safety procedures while operating equipment
  • Report any required repairs or concerns to the supervisor.
  • Complete production reporting and other documentation as required.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with other team member
  • Perform work on a rotational basics (i.e. day and night shifts).
  • Actively participate in orientation and training programs.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the work area.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Operator (Provincial Blue Seal and/or National Red Seal) Certification is considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience operating heavy equipment in an industrial setting.
  • Specific experience working on the following equipment is an asset:
    •  CAT 374, 352, and 349 Excavators
    •  CAT 988/966 Loader.
    • CAT D9/D10 Dozer
    • Cat 16M Grader
  • Experience working in a remote industrial environment is preferred.
  • Must hold valid Provincial Class 5, 8 and 3 drivers’ licenses with air brake endorsement.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
  • Excellent coordination and driving skills.
  • Ability to provide mentorship, coaching and training to an apprentice.
  • Strong knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Experience with radio communication and protocols.
  • Excellent communication (oral/written) skills required.
  • Strong team building skills.
  • A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
