The Opportunity
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, Shared Services, the Accountant, Shared Services will provide support to Shared Services and the overall finance department.
Key Activities
Based on Chartwell Retirement Residences’ business plan and corporate goals, and in consultation with the Accounting Manager, Shared Services, the Accountant will be responsible for:
• Daily review of high volume of utility invoices ensuring all data entered in the system is accurate and approved according to the signing and delegation policies.
• Preparation of monthly utility accruals in accordance with the payments posted ensuring completeness and accuracy.
• Preparation of the utility expense and consumption analysis and providing utility data to internal and external customers
• Analyzing results, trends and variances to budget and making recommendations based on analysis.
• Assisting in the preparation of Shared Services’ annual budget.
• Preparation of monthly amortization for property and liability insurance
• Preparation of split reclass and monthly prepaid for vehicle insurance.
• Preparation of monthly prepaid expense for association memberships including OLTCA, BCSLA, RHRA, RQRA, ASCHA and ORCA
• Identifying and tracking of process improvements and documentation of processes, policies and procedures.
• Communicating effectively with Senior Management, Accounting Managers, Property Accountants and external third parties.
• Special projects as assigned by Accounting Manager – note that due to the continuous process improvement orientation of the departments, other duties and special projects may constitute a significant portion of duties.
• Providing cross training to department team members including documentation of this position’s core duties as well as being trained for other members’ tasks for backup purposes.
Qualifications
Experience:
• Related industry experience (preferred)
• 2-5 years of experience in accounting/finance roles
Education:
• Minimum 2 yr. Business Degree
Skills & Abilities:
• English/French Bilingualism (optional)
• Ability to deal with high volume transactions and to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (Intermediate)
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
