Job Summary:
The Lead Diesel Mechanic is responsible for day to day supervision of shop operations to include inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining various types of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles, scheduling of shop repairs work, and coordinating repairs with third party vendors. This role ensures the vehicles are in optimal operating condition, contributing to the safety and efficiency of the company's fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule repairs based on pre-determined maintenance intervals and driver feedback.
- Coordinate repairs with third party vendors.
- Completing administrative functions associated with vehicle repairs such as issuance of purchase orders, and review of in-house work orders.
- Work closely with shop leads/supervisors from other locations to coordinate repairs and parts movement.
- Order and receive parts for inventory.
- Conduct routine inspections of all on and off-road equipment to identify potential issues.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to assess mechanical and electronic systems.
- Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and other preventive measures.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components, including engines, transmissions, brake systems, and other parts.
- Address electrical and electronic issues, including wiring, lights, and instrument panels.
- Maintain detailed records of services performed, parts used, and time spent on each task.
- Update maintenance logs and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Communicate with drivers and operators to understand vehicle issues and provide updates on repair status.
- Offer advice and recommendations on vehicle care and preventive maintenance.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies.
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
- Proven experience as a truck mechanic or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of trucks.
- Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver's license; CDL is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Comfortable working in various conditions, including outdoors and in tight spaces.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Work Environment:
- The work environment includes exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and variable weather conditions.
- The role may require overtime and weekend work depending on the workload and operational needs.
