SUMMARY: The Staff Accountant is responsible for contributing to maintenance of accurate and organized finances through clear financial reporting and careful general ledger maintenance. This role supports tax compliance and assists with tracking environmental requirements at the federal and state level. This position requires working closely with teammates within the accounting department, as well as across the organization to solve problems, improve processes, and support the success of our renewable fuel and biodiesel operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned at management’s discretion.
- Prepare and assist in various GL accounting duties, including research, analysis, reconciliation, journal entry, transaction entry, and financial statement preparation
- Assist in preparation of multi-state fuel tax compliance and file state fuel tax reports
- Assist in providing periodic actual results for key performance indicators and assists plant staff in explaining variances
- Assist in transactional compliance reporting in federal and state environmental programs
- Assist in Identifying and implementing process improvements in all areas
- Backup and learn other duties in the accounting department
- Assist management in special projects as assigned
- Assist with preparation of biweekly payroll for plant production sites

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field required
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience required if degree not in accounting
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including basic functions and data entry capabilities required
- Ability to remain composed and productive in high-pressure situations while ensuring timely task completion
- Ability to perform routine account reconciliations and provide support on more complex reconciliation tasks as needed.
- Ability and willingness to adapt to new systems, tools, and evolving processes in a dynamic work environment.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to being a collaborative team player with a strong sense of ownership and alignment with the company’s vision and mission.
- Ability to prepare routine and procedural reports & records
- CPA certification or CPA eligibility preferred
- Advanced knowledge of Excel preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lift up to 10lbs occasionally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment is primarily office-based with no noise hazards.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, working hours to be determined. This position is on-site and in-office full-time. Based on financial reporting deadlines, extended hours and weekend work may be occasionally required.
