We're looking for a dedicated Chemical Applicator to join our stable, expert team.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

The Chemical Applicator is a critical role responsible for the safe, timely, and effective application of all agrichemicals, ensuring the health and quality of our nursery inventory.

Chemical Application & Management

  • Application: Directly handle, mix, load, and apply agrichemicals (pesticides and fertilizers) across the nursery grounds.
  • Calculation & Calibration: Responsible for calculating and measuring chemical mixtures with mathematical competency. Accurately calibrating equipment to ensure the proper application rate.
  • Integrated Pest Management (IPM): Utilize knowledge of IPM practices to identify potential pest and disease problems and assist the Grower in determining the most effective treatment required.

Safety, Compliance, & Documentation

  • Worker Protection Standard (WPS): Ensure all applications are within the limits of laws and labels. Post warning signs in areas where pesticides have been applied.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately record all chemical applications, including chemical mixtures, application rates, and target areas. Proficiency in reading and writing in English is required for this documentation.
  • Equipment Safety: Safely handle all equipment, including backpack sprayers, and ensure all nursery employees follow safety guidelines established for chemical applications.

Operational Support

  • Teamwork: Work closely with the Nursery Grower and the Yard Supervisor to coordinate application schedules.
  • Self-Directed Work: Operate as a self-starter who will not require constant micro-management, managing daily application tasks efficiently.


What You Bring (Required Qualifications)

  • Knowledge: Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices is required. Prior experience in chemical applications is preferred.
  • Compliance & Literacy: Proficient in reading and writing in English to comply with WPS documentation and chemical label instructions.
  • Mathematical Skills: Required mathematical competency and skills to accurately calculate, measure, and calibrate chemicals and equipment.
  • Physical Stamina: This is strenuous work requiring:
    • The ability to work all day in varying greenhouse and outdoor areas.
    • The ability to stand for long periods and perform tasks like climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
    • The ability to handle equipment, including backpack sprayers that can weigh up to 40 pounds.
    • The ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted and 100+ pounds with a dolly.
  • Work Environment: Willingness to work outside in all types of Phoenix weather and elements (wind, rain, dust, cold, humidity, and extreme heat).
  • Transportation & Schedule: Must have reliable transportation. Available to work Monday through Friday and occasional weekends as needed.
  • Communication: Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.

  • Wages: Hourly wages start at $17.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Schedule

This role requires a dedicated approach, including 10-hour shifts, Monday to Friday, with occasional Holidays and Weekend availability required based on seasonal production needs.
