POSITIONS: 1.0 Probationary Reading Specialist (Title 1 Grant)
Please note: This position is contingent upon grant funding and subject to grant requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- NYSED Certification in Reading K-12 or Literacy (B-12) preferred, or Literacy (Birth-6) required
- Evidence of successful teaching of reading
- Evidence of good interpersonal skills with students and adults
- Ability to motivate and engage students in literacy activities
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth
- Belief that all students’ learning can be accelerated
- Willingness and availability to participate in specialized reading intervention training
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of content and performance standards as related to elementary level ELA for grades K-6
- Experience teaching reading to students and selecting appropriate interventions within an RtI/AIS framework
- Ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations of students’ literacy skills: select and administer assessments, interpret results, and develop and execute a targeted instructional plan to accelerate student achievement
- Demonstrated knowledge of ELA curriculum and curriculum development including planning, execution and evaluation of materials, supplies, and lessons
- Confirmed ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with peers, parents, students and supervisors on a regular basis
- Willingness to contribute to school community outside of the classroom, i.e. student clubs, district and school committees and professional development
- Experience with a variety of instructional models/programs in reading
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology and its application in the classroom
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers
- Demonstrated proficiency in modifying/adapting the ELA curriculum to meet student needs
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate reading instruction based on grade level and student need
- Coursework directly relating to primary and intermediate level elementary students
- Ability to reflect and contemplate on one’s teaching – allowing for growth and continuous improvement
- Ability to collaborate with the TOSA for Federal Grants
REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, and ELA Instructional Specialist
SALARY: $47,200 - $53,700 (Per WTA Contract)
