POSITION: MECHANIC TECHNICIAN

The Fleet Mechanic Technician plays a vital role in maintaining the reliability and performance of a diverse fleet of construction equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, and heavy vehicles. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and servicing heavy machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations, taking a proactive approach to minimize downtime. The Fleet Mechanic Technician is responsible for routine maintenance and shop-based services while adhering to company safety standards and OSHA regulations. With a strong technical background and problem-solving skills, this role collaborates with field teams to support the success of construction operations.

Duties to Perform:

Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Perform regular maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on company vehicles and equipment (e.g., Caterpillar, John Deere) to ensure optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks, to prevent breakdowns.
  • Repair or replace defective components, such as hoses, belts, pumps, and other mechanical systems.
  • Perform bodywork, including cutting and replacing damaged metal, sheet metal fabrication, prepping, and painting.
  • Address structural issues by stopping cracks and removing rust from metal parts.
  • Re-stencil equipment numbers, including serial numbers, as needed.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Document all equipment repairs, inspections, safety observations, and usage data.
  • Complete Work Orders with accurate details, parts used, and service performed.
  • Identify and report misuse or abuse of company assets to the Fleet Foreman.
  • Submit a minimum of 2 Safety Observations per month to promote a safe work environment.

Shop Maintenance

  • Perform repairs and maintenance in the shop when not assigned to field duties.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to OSHA and company safety standards.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Stay updated on new techniques, technologies, and industry best practices through company-provided training.
  • Wear and enforce the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Collaborate with a team of mechanics and field operators to support operational needs.
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as directed by the Fleet Foreman.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, & EXPERIENCE:

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficiency in using diagnostic software and tools for heavy equipment troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with work order reporting software.

Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or degree in heavy equipment maintenance preferred.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with team members and supervisors.

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making

  • Ability to diagnose issues efficiently and develop cost-effective repair solutions.
