The Shift Supervisor, Pulp Mill, leads and manages the manufacturing operations for a designated shift to optimize mill performance, meet customer requirements and achieve plant objectives. Scope covers all aspects of ongoing shift operations including safety and housekeeping, quality, production, environmental control, equipment repair and reliability, cost control, chemical and raw material usage and people management.

How You’ll shape the Future of the Pulping Department:

  • Leads safety efforts on shift to prevent injuries, eliminate hazards, improve housekeeping and comply with all applicable regulations and mill policies.  Implements improvement initiatives, corrects unsafe conditions and responds to safety concerns to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Supervises operators on shift. Manages employee performance and promotes teamwork.  Provides appropriate coaching and training (OJT and SkillsNow) to ensure reliable performance and compliance with environmental, safety and quality requirements. Assigns and schedules employees in a manner to maximize effectiveness within labor agreement constraints.  Addresses performance deficiencies and takes disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Ensures safe maximum pulp production that meets manufacturing specifications and customer requirements. 
  • Maintains quality and environmental parameters within prescribed limits, basing decisions on operating conditions and trends.  Ensures that required testing occurs on schedule and in an appropriate manner.
  • Works with other shift supervisors to coordinate, prioritize and assign shift maintenance activities to address emergency or urgent work orders.  Consults with maintenance personnel to ensure equipment repairs are completed in a timely manner.  Assigns operating personnel to perform preventive maintenance and maintenance assist activities.
  • Makes periodic rounds of assigned areas to monitor employee and equipment performance, operating conditions, housekeeping, safety, production, quality and environmental performance. 
  • Manages the operation and activities on shift to control costs – labor, supplies, general expenses and chemicals.
  • Keep other supervisors informed of overall operations and special problems that may affect them.  Coordinates planned and emergency repairs to minimize lost time.
  • Keeps up-to-date personnel records and data.  Manages and documents routine labor relations issues, employee counseling and grievances at the first step.
  • Communicates effectively with management to keep them informed and obtain necessary support.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies and Rayonier’s Standard of Ethics and Code of Corporate Conduct.  Promotes and carries out the Company’s ongoing affirmative action and equal opportunity programs.

You’ll Be Someone Who Can Bring:

  • BS degree in applicable field or equivalent experience 
  • Minimum 3 year's experience in a manufacturing supervisory role (pulp operations preferred)
  • Well-developed knowledge of pulp manufacturing, plant maintenance practices and project management
