SIS AND COMMUNICATION SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Location: Central Office
Reports to: Director of Technology IT Director
Supervises: None
Job Status: Full-time, non-exempt position
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Two years of work experience in computer science or related fields.
- Experience in working with educational and operational applications including SIS systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy
- Possess technical aspects of the field and specialty
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace

POSITION SUMMARY:
The SIS and communication specialist role assists with the operation and maintenance of the student information system; ensures the SIS meets district and user satisfaction; and provides technical and workflow support to district staff in the use of the system. Coordinates the overall collection and entry of data. Ensures consistent and timely operations in all buildings by working closely with building secretaries. Manage communications for the District through communication tools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists SIS and Reporting Coordinator with:
- maintaining clean data in the student information system, including students and staff,
- maintaining staff accounts and assigning groups and roles with input from building and district administration,
- maintaining student accounts in coordination with IT Security Specialist,
- ensuring schedules, courses, classes, system settings, grading settings, etc. are set correctly and in a timely manner,
- ensuring processes are in place related to student enrollment procedures, pre-enrollments, student attendance categories, transcripts and/or program, components, student dropouts, and graduation rates for the purpose of ensuring accurate reporting and compliance with State rules & regulations,
- maintaining accurate documentation regarding SIS functions, operating procedures, and the dissemination of updates to users,
- ensuring new teachers and other SIS users are trained on district practices for SIS and other related applications,
- ensuring system integrity and reliability through:
- implementation and execution of data archival/restoration procedures
- maintaining secondary environment (“sandbox”) for testing new software integrations and administrative procedures and for training purposes
- providing instruction, training and written processes to staff regarding accurate use of the SIS,
- working closely with SIS & Communication Specialists and delegating tasks as appropriate.
- Manage family access in the student information system.
- Assists with other educational and operational applications, specific to communication between all stakeholders.
- Administers and maintains the district’s selected messaging and communication portals
- Works with district administrations to create alert processes and procedures
- Manages alerts for all schools giving secretaries the ability to:
- Operate automated student attendance system and other software needed for the purposes of ensuring accurate tracking and documentation of student attendance
- Communicate with parents and/or guardians regarding their student absences (e.g. written notification, etc.) for the purpose of meeting district administrative requirements and mandated guidelines. Follows district protocols to correctly record and reconcile absences.

- Manage District Calendar
- Coincide with individual school calendars.
- Publish appropriately on district website
- Post News and Live Feeds as needed
- Coordinate the data interchange between systems at end of period events related to SIS information systems (End of school year, calendar year, assessment periods, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
