Position Overview
The System Administrator is responsible for developing and maintaining the company’s IT infrastructure. This individual will manage critical applications, servers and provide/restrict access to them as needed. They are directly in-charge of identifying and implementing current and new technology solutions as it relates to the overall strategy of the company. They keep current with new emerging technology and mentor coworkers as needed. In addition, the System Administrator will perform regular systems and security monitoring and be responsible for handling backup procedures, patches, upgrades, and implementation of new server/systems to ensure that systems are maximally efficient and effective.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as with other departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
- Develops and maintains a project/job request management system to centrally prioritize and schedule technical tasks.
- Makes recommendations for workflow improvements and ways to enhance efficiency and effectiveness; documents as appropriate.
- Keeps projects and service tickets current. Identifies project timelines effectively and completes them within the timeline and/or stated service level agreements.
- Participates with direct supervisor in establishing specific goals for the department; implements strategies to achieve these goals.
- Develops, maintains, and supports the management of the company’s Information Technology and Information Security program.
- Develops system strategies at the evaluation, design and implementation stages to address business or industry requirements.
- Identifies, evaluates and deploys hardware or software technologies to achieve desired system performance based on the company’s strategic goals.
- Manages and maintains IT infrastructure including, but not limited to:
- Environments: DR/Production/Cloud/etc.
- Hardware: Servers, PCs, Laptops, Thin Clients, Peripherals
- Software: Microsoft, Citrix, Cisco, Crowdstrike, Solarwinds, Adobe, financial services products and services, etc.
- Works with third party IT consultants and IT vendors on application and system design, documentation, installations, updates, and support issues.
- Monitors, plans, and coordinates the distribution of client/server software and service packs.
- Participates in project management activities including scoping, plan development, task management, and execution.
- Maintains current knowledge of the various technologies utilized by the company; keeps current on all industry-specific emerging technology trends.
- Works independently on special IT projects as assigned by supervisor.
- Assists IT management team with various administrative duties as requested.
- Screens, evaluates, and identifies system design and security related risks with all applicable requests for IT infrastructure changes and implements the best possible solution.
- Reviews periodic system upgrades with various departments to identify potential weaknesses.
- Installs and/or coordinates periodic computer software upgrades to maintain a proper security posture.
- Identifies and corrects deviations from new and existing industry standards.
- Monitors and reports systems resource consumption trends to assure production systems meet availability requirements and hardware enhancements are scheduled appropriately.
- Develops and documents system and network designs to support business continuity and to improve consistency in new deployments.
- Troubleshoots malfunctions of servers and software applications to resolve operational issues in order to restore service.
- Checks proposed solutions in test environments to ensure outcome meets intentions.
- Plays an active role in protecting the organization and its customers against fraud by incorporating risk awareness and prevention into daily responsibilities.
- Logs and tracks implementations, changes, fixes, issue reoccurrences, degradation in system performances on a daily basis.
- Creates and/or improves workflows, documents results of IT projects, implementations, changes, fixes, as needed.
- Produces reports/audits on changes of health and thresholds on servers, appliances and its functions, within the company’s infrastructure.
- Maintains an inventory of all hardware, PC software and licensing records.
- Reports pertinent information to management as requested, or according to an established schedule.
- Reviews security reports for various systems and makes recommendations to the Chief Information Security Officer based on findings.
- Compiles compliance information for examiners/auditors.
- Communicates with direct supervisor, other managers, and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate activities.
- Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from other personnel, customers, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.
- Performs tasks, which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Education & Qualifications
- A B.S. or B.A. degree in Computer Science or related field of study preferred, or equivalent related work experience and/or training.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ related experience in related positions normally required.
- Experience with vxRail, VMware, Citrix, Veeam, DataDomain, Hyper-V, Microsoft 365 preferred.

Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; proficient technical skills; advanced knowledge of virtualized infrastructure; advanced knowledge of Virtual Desktop; advanced knowledge of enterprise Disaster Recovery & backup solutions; proficient with network protocols; proficient knowledge of cloud infrastructure; proficient information security skills; proficient knowledge of information technology functions. Demonstrated management of systems skills; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 75 lbs. or less; visual, auditory and speaking skills; valid driver’s license is required.
